Sweet, drooly heaven on a tray, this place is amazing. It's a little hole in the wall place that serves up some truly delicious BBQ. Normally I'm a beef brisket girl, but in the interest of trying a number of things, the dude got the brisket and I got the pulled pork. Best. Decision. Ever. Don't get me wrong, the brisket was good, but that pork nearly changed my life. It was soft and succulent with none of those grody little bits of fats that you sometimes find in pulled pork. Pair that with their sweet barbecue sauce that I assume is made in house and I was in hog heaven. Pun very much intended. The other sauces--hot, mustard, and some sort of white sauce--were all great too, but I love a sweet and savory combo. The sides were tremendous as well. The baked beans were heavenly, as was the corn bread. The only regret I have is that I didn't get a beer to go with my meal. Oh well, live and learn, I guess. Protip: Do not park in front of the Polish deli or in spaces marked as theirs. I have no idea what the history is there, but even if they are closed for business, they will still call and have your car booted and towed in a matter of minutes.

I just can't get enough of this place. I enjoyed the chicken, which is about the best I have ever had- I just don't understand how it's smoked and cooked, but still is so moist! Brisket? Amazing.

had the brisket sandwich, piled high on an onion roll, absolutely killer. great flavor, tender and juicy, had it with slaw. been there a few times and is now my go to bbq spot. sorry Tom, its over between us. parking is a bit of a hassle, i guess you can park at the midas, i parked across federal highway at the public and walked over. its worth it.

And yes I'm back to the famous Blue Willie's. Went for the brisket Jalapeño corn bread and Mac and cheese. Awesome awesome. Remember if you like pastrami Thursday is the only day and get here early

Woohoo! I loved the BBQ at this joint. It's a pretty small place kind of tucked back in a little strip mall but we happened to be in the area and hungry. I had pulled pork with mac and cheese and baked beans. The side items were in generous portions, as well as the meat. It was all delicious. They had a good variety of BBQ sauces on the tables, too. Would definitely come back if I'm ever in the area again!

By far the best BBQ restaurant i have ever been too! Very rustic hole in the wall feelings with excellent quality food. Parking is very difficult but extremely worth it to struggle to find a spot. Big portions and tender meats!! We will 100% be back!

So as I was taking the turnpike to a meeting in Boca, on an empty stomach, I see a billboard advertising the Swimming Pigs of Exuma. This inspired me to get some good BBQ, so I asked Savannah (the originator of this story) where to get some in Boca. I drove to Blue Willy's after said meeting. However, I'm rating them 3.5 There's a few bugs that need to be worked out with a place that has plenty of potential. For one, they have a parking troll for a neighbor which leaves them only 3 spaces facing Federal Highway. Thus, getting a spot can be tricky. The restaurant has a divey, rustic look with old roadhouse decor, a stash of wood for the smoker and a deliciously smokey aroma inside. The "pardon our dust we're remodeling sign in the bathroom kind of kills the divey vibe. The food they do have is actually tasty. Feeling famished, I went for their 2 meat combo of half BBQ chicken and half pork ribs swimming in their two BBQ sauce. After asking on the sauces, I sampled both the sweet sauce and Carolina honey mustard (my favorite). My side order of baked beans was perfectly sweet, and the cornbread was good as well. They didn't have fries or corn on the cob, typical southern food staples. I'm not sure if this was just today or if it's lacking from their menu in general. Also, their soda selection was lacking; both Coke and Sprite had run out. As I mentioned, this place has a lot of potential. Here's hoping they work these things out and I can upgrade them next time.

Wow!!! Without a doubt the best bbq that I've ever had! With limited advertising and a hole in the wall type location, Willies BBQ is anything but ordinary. When you first walk in, you instantly become famished due to the ridiculously awesome smell of hickory smoked meats being prepared! I ordered the pulled pork sandwich (onion bun is a must!), Mac and cheese and jalapeño cornbread. The meat was so tender and juicy all smothered in with homemade cole slaw. Willies provides a selection of various bbq sauces depending on your taste. I used the hot and Carolina style sauces. Yum is an understatement! The food is served on a cafeteria tray where the last thing you need worry about is being clean and proper :) get those hands and mouths dirty and dig in to the bbq food of the century! You won't regret it

To paraphrase the song, (with apologies) "It's all about the meat, the meat, the meat..." In 1977, I spent a few days in Texas along the coastal area on the Gulf Coast. I was taken to a real pit barbecue place whose name I have forgotten. But not the meat, it was the best barbecue I had ever tasted. The brisket was as tender as anything I had ever eaten. For the last 38 years I had been comparing every barbecue place to that experience. None had even come close. Until now. In fact, Blue Willies is better, by far. We ordered the rib tips and a brisket plate with mac and cheese and slaw for the 2 sides, and both were excellent. But the meat was unbelievably good. The brisket just melted in my mouth. It was tender, juicy and was not overpowered by the smoke. The meat was perfectly marbled and the taste was great. The sides were delicious too. The woman who took our order told us the rib tips were just put up and were a great deal. About 3 lbs for $12.99 and I am so glad I listened to her. They were outstanding. In fact, this was the first time I ever got rib tips and I will order them again and again. The bark was crisp and the smoke ring was quite evident. It was a real treat. They have three distinct layers, the bark and some meat, a fat layer with some cartilage and a meaty bottom layer. The meat was not as tender as the brisket, but it was delicious too. The sauces were the house original, sweet and tangy, a white sauce, recommended for chicken and a Carolina mustard which was tangy and not too sweet. We tended to use the original. I didn't even try the hot. The wait staff were great. Very friendly and helpful and right on on their suggestions. One other thing, the parking. It's parking space wars with their neighbors. I hate seeing that kind of thing. It is annoying when parking becomes a cause for a feud. One other restaurant did that in Ocala and they are out of business, and I say good riddance.

This place has great barbecue. Definitely the best barbecue in the area. Looks are deceiving and typically I wouldn't stop at a restaurant that looks like this but I was on a mission after seeing the Yelp reviews. First off, what's the deal with the parking? There are like 4-5 parking spots for any store to use then about 15-20 that are only for the Polish Deli (closed at night) and the psychic next door (was open when we came by). Why in the world does a psychic need 15 parking spots? It's a small location and as expected every single spot was empty (the psychics spots). All of Blue Willys spots were taken. I ordered the pulled pork plate and my husband ordered the two meats with brisket and sausage. Pulled pork was very good. The plate is overloaded with it. I liked all 3 sauces. I'm very picky with barbecue sauce and the sauces usually kill a restaurant for me but all 3 were great and tasty options. My husband loved the sausage and liked the brisket. On the side we ordered Mac and cheese and cornbread. Both very good. We live a little far from here but we'll be back next time we're in the area! I hope the psychic relinquishes some parking spots soon!

I had Thursday afternoon off - so I headed to Blue Willy's to get pastrami! I read the reviews about the mean-spirited people at the Polish deli so I passed by the empty spots with signs warning parking was only for their customers. I parked on the side of the Midas shop across from the lot. Waiting on line, I was starving and couldn't narrow down what I wanted. I figured this is far from our house and I didn't want to miss out on anything so I decided to order everything! I read a sign advising a 2 sandwich limit of $12 pastrami sandwiches. I ordered 2 to go (1 on rye, 1 on an onion roll). They added mustard and Cole slaw. I also ordered sausage, brisket, pulled pork, ribs, corn bread, mac and cheese, collard greens, beans, and Cole slaw. Then I ordered 1 pastrami on rye to eat in. I planned on giving some to my mom, freezing some, and not cooking for days! The guy I assume is the owner was telling the guy whose family took soda cans that it's not self-serve. The same guy tried to cut the line and order at the cashier's station and the owner told him to wait on line like everyone else. Then the owner was looking at the storefront window because an employee told him someone was giving parking tickets. At the same time he was telling a customer he was at the pastrami limit and couldn't add more to his order. When I told hubby about this he dubbed the owner the Pastrami Nazi. In the time I was there they went through nearly 3 pastrami roasts so I think the owner is trying to dole the meat out so everyone gets some. What a problem to have - having to limit pastrami orders so we all get some! Then the owner told me I'd have to wait 15 minutes for my order and should call in big orders but then said they don't answer the phone for hours on Thursdays. I told him I'd never been there before so I didn't know. His eyes bounced off every wall as he spoke to me. I think he's a nice guy but trying to watch everything. The food: The hand cut smoked pastrami is the VERY BEST I've ever had. I wish it had less peppery rub on it but it's soft and juicy. The brisket is tasty - a tad dry (I ate it without the sauce served on the side) but GREAT with sauce. The pulled pork is terrific - even without the side sauce, likely because it has a higher fat content. The sausage is soft and smoky. The ribs are meaty and heavily rubbed. The smoke hits your mouth before you make contact with the meat. The mac and cheese is ok - hubby loved it. The beans are fabulous and I'm not a bean lover. The Cole slaw is great, especially with the meat. The collard greens are sweet - not salty. The corn kernel studded cornbread is dry and dense. I got my order quickly and went to my car - no ticket. When hubby got home we tasted everything. Our meals have been great ever since!

Best BBQ in south Florida! Ordered meat combo plate with brisket and pork ribs with BBQ baked beans and collard greens, a couple of brisket plates with mixed sides. The meats were tender, tasty and with a BBQ flavor out of this world. We could have skipped the BBQ sauces! However, all of the sauces had unique qualities that complemented the meats. Tried the hot, regular and the vinegar sauces. Recommend all of them. Blue Willy's Barbecue has to be on your list of favorites.

I liked it, but didn't love it. This place has a near-fanatical customer base, as evidenced by the line forming well before the 11:30 door opening (yelp lists an opening time of 11am, and while wrong, it's just as well that it IS wrong since you will need to arrive early). Given the rabid popularity, Willy hardly needs an endorsement from me. I'm a huge fan of BBQ but not such a great fan of brisket/pastrami. So after reading a lot of hype, I felt a little let down by what is most certainly fantastic pastrami, but not a pastrami that would "convert" me. I mean, if a person doesn't like broccoli, and they eat the best broccoli in the world, they may still not like it, and that was my experience. I'll have to come back and try the brisket or other offerings. If I like the other stuff, I'd bump to a "4", but I doubt it would make it to "5" because of the prices - my pastrami on rye bread with coleslaw was $12. The other sandwiches were less, but still around $9, which is pretty expensive 'que. To be "destination-worthy" it has to be both super-tasty and a good value. If you are in the area, absolutely go. But if you are in North Miami-Dade/South Broward, there's little reason to pass Tom Jenkins' to pay twice the price at Blue Willys. And if you live north of Broward, I'd stick to SMOKE (see my review at yelp.com/biz/smoke-bbq-d… ), where you get a sandwich, side and a drink for $3 less than the sandwich alone was today at BWB. At both of those alternatives you also won't have a hassle over parking, which is a major problem that makes Willy Blue.

Small place, great BBQ, great service. Yes, you order at the counter, and you will be able to see the yummy stuff being served... it will make you drool. BBQ is definitely authentic, sides are great and always good to share. Orders are enough for one person, but it definitely helps if you want to order several items and share it with other people - this way you can try a bit of everything! Although I wonder why BBQ is always served cold... or room temperature - must be a BBQ thing. We ordered several items: Brisket, Chicken & Sausages with sides. If you are around, definitely check it out.

I went here because of the high number of reviews and stars. Let me start off by saying that in South Florida Tom Jenkins is my favorite BBQ spot, but its far. I was hoping Blue Willies could be a closer alternative. Sadly, there is no replacing Tom Jenkins. But, it wasn't a total fail. Pros - The meats (we got brisket, ribs, pork, and chicken) were really moist and tender. Flavorful even with out any sauce. Interesting sauces. I think 4/5 in total. Even though vinegar based sauces aren't my favorite these were actually tasty. I could taste something other than vinegar. A special mention to the white sauce which was new to me and perfect on the chicken. Side orders. The beans are a must order. So smoky and not too sweet. The collard greens were perfect texture. Not too soggy. Cons - Parking is an absolute nightmare. There are like 4 spots total for Blue Willies. The other spots are all designated for the Polish Deli and there were signs everywhere threatening tows if you parked in their spots (Dick move in my opinion). We had to park across the street and walk over. Drinks were weenie. I got the sweet tea and although it tasted great the cup size was pitiful. I was still thirsty after finishing it. The person that took our order never mentioned sizes so I don't even know if there was an option for an adult sized cup. Service here when compared to Tom Jenkins, although equally friendly, was inefficient. Next time I get a hankering for BBQ I would probably make the drive to Tom Jenkins.

If you want good barbecue, go here!!! It is AMAZING! This one of those no frills places. They actually sell out of food some days, particularly on pastrami days(once a week). Located in a run down plaza and connected to some auto sales(lot) and a polish deli. DO NOT park in the auto place, you'll get towed. When you first walk in you'll see the main counter, possibly a man chopping some brisket(mmmmm), and long "cafeteria-style" tables. Menu is up on a chalk board with all the meats, side dishes and beers they have available. I usually end up with a double meat platter, brisket and sausage. The girlfriend usually goes for ribs(meat falls off the bone) and we'll end up trading. The meals come with a slice of bread, I assume this is for taste testing the different barbecue sauces they have. Also 2 sides, we usually go for the Mac n cheese and cornbread(jalapeño for me). Everything about the food is amazing. So good I'm practically drooling as I write this. I'm dying to try the pastrami. Based on what I'm told you need to get there around 11am and they sell out by 1:30. Best barbecue in Broward, if not the tri-county area.

Holy brisket, Batman. This place has, hands down, the best brisket I've ever had. And I come from barbecue country. The ribs don't need any sauce. The mac 'n' cheese will make you weep. Hubby said next time we will come with reinforcements. He means friends. I mean my fat pants. :)

Ohhhhh... soooooo sooooo SOOOOOOO good! I love me some BBQ!! The brisket was delicious! The mac'n'cheese is great! Sweet tea was delicious! Cornbread was good. I also loved the simplicity of it... you walk in, order your food, grab a spot to sit at communal tables, and go get your food when they call you. Just the way I like it! No fuss!

Ducked in for the epic and famous Thursday Bark-Encrusted Pastrami Sandwich. WOW. This thing is a hit. Laura Lee has been RAVING about this thing for some time now, so I finally made the time to scoop her sweet self up and go jump in line to try one. They only manufacture these delish babies once per week. Apparently it is so work-intensive that the proprietor only has the desire to do it weekly and not become a slave to it. His choice. I see opportunity. Anyway, back to the sammy: 3/4 of a pound of soft, supple, sweet, tasty, vinegared Pastrami piled with cole slaw atop an onion roll with mustard. HOLY SHIT. Get one, immediately. And come to my wake, I am sure someone is going to put a hit out on me for Amplifying the knowledge of this sammy, it is that good. Get there early, not later than 11A I suggest. The line starts early. I got a spot in front, but be sure to read other Yelper's insight about parking issues because neighbor businesses like the Polish Deli aren't smart enough to work together and are QUICK to tow. $10 bucks. Cabeza SATIATED!

This place has been bookmarked on YELP for forever! Yesterday, I decided it was finally time to see what all of the hullabaloo was all about... And boy! Is all the hype definitely warranted! You enter this little quaint establishment, are greeted by the owner (an older, but lovely) gentleman. There are no menus, just the one chalk board of info. I quickly decided on the BBQ half chicken so I could heavily have my way with their famously yummy white bbq sauce. My husband had the brisket. Each meal comes with two sides- we both got greens, he got beans, and i got the mac n cheese. My chicken was moist, and so so perfectly cooked. The skin was smokey and crispy, and i could literally taste the sugar grains in the rub. HEAVEN! The white bbq sauce is not to be missed! I want to syphon it! The brisket was so tender and juicy- very unlike most briskets! The sides were awesome as well- greens were super yummy and not too salty, and mac and cheese was great although i could barely eat it! Beans were a ten! Lastly, and certainly not least, they have some great craft beer selections! More IPAs, please!! We cannot wait to come back!

This place is a hole in the wall, with benches and no wine, but I still would recommend it! It was packed. They even sold out of ribs right after we ordered. The portions were large and the meat was tender and plentiful. I would come here again for lunch instead of dinner. My teenage son said, and I quote " these were the best ribs I've ever had!"

After having been here a few times, I'd say this is the best BBQ I've tried in S. Florida. My husband loves brisket, and I've never understood his craving because brisket to me is dry, fibrous and bland meat. Until I tried Blue Willy's version which is juicy, tender, with a bit of fat that melts in my mouth. It has a beautiful bark generously rubbed with pepper and spice. I become enlightened. I too become a believer of the Holy Brisket. I have been dreaming and salivating about it ever since. Their ribs too, is another winner. The meat is easily pulled but not fallen off the bone, so it still retains a good texture without being mushy. Their sausage, a blend of beef and pork, uses natural casing that gives it a delightful crispness. To illustrate how tasty everything is: the first time I ate there, I totally forgot about the bottles of sauces. Yup, the BBQ was such perfection, no sauce was needed. I noticed the bottles half way through but I didn't feel the need to add any. Unlike some other places where the meat is so devoid of flavor you need to drench it in sauce. For sides, the smoked beans are delicious with a sweet touch, the collard green is tender without being salty, and the sprinkling of bread crumbs on the mac & cheese gives it a nice crunch. Cornbread is too dry though. I also like their small but good selection of beer, with Founders, Dogfish Head, Cigar City and other crafts along with the more common Coors and Sam Adams. Willy is a very friendly guy who enjoys a good chat with customers. His grandfather got into the bbq business when he found that the bbq side in his butcher shop generates more money than the main trade. No wonder Willy has mastered the art of BBQ.

By far the best bbq around. The brisket is very tender, the sauces are all great, and the portions are huge. The pastrami on Thursday's is out of this world. I love pastrami. Please don't go on Thursdays.

I have begrudgingly accepted that there are a handful of bbq places in South Florida that are actually good and this is one of the best of them. I tried the ribs, brisket, and sausage here. All were above average. I think the brisket was the best of the three. Nice and fatty with a really tasty char on the outside. The sauce selection is nice here as well. I was surprised to see a white sauce. Normally you don't see the white sauce outside of Alabama, so hats off for having that as an option. The sides were limited, but the Mac & cheese and jalapeno cornbread were both nicely done. The prices are a little on the high side here, but nothing too excessive. We will come back...

Ribs were really good, nice dry rub. Brisket was juicy and tender. Pulled pork had a good smoky flavor that worked well work the BBQ sauces waiting on the table. Mac n' Cheese was dynamite really cheesy and well baked. Cornbread was defiantly worth it. I am partial to sweet BBQ, but theirs was good and not too tangy for a Southerner like me. Enjoy!

The BEST BBQ in Fort Lauderdale. I love their chicken and corn bread.

  • Brent M.

I love BBQ, but just not this place. First time here, so I figured I should get ribs. If you can't do a good job with ribs, then nothing else will be worth trying if you call yourself a BBQ place. The ribs looked perfect with a very nice bark. (So wish I took a photo.) However, I didn't get any smoky flavor in the ribs. Not sure what wood they are using in smoker, but home hand smoker gun in parts more smoke flavor. So get over the missing smoke (which is very hard to overlook in a real BBQ place), I tried to use the BBQ sauce on table to flavor up the ribs, which I would say was average at best. On to the sides, where I chose slaw & beans. What better choice for BBQ, right? Nope. The slaw was soggy and tasteless. The beans over cooked, practically resembled refried beans consistency. I didn't finish either of my sides. For me not to finish my food really says how much I didn't like it. So, sadly I had to give less than average review for a place I heard so many good things about. I don't think I will be returning, even for the pastrami I hear so much about. Oh well, there are other much better BBQ places in the area.

3.5 stara Looking for some authentic bbq in Pompano, surprise we found it! When you first drive up you won't think much of it and be careful not to park in the Polish psychic spots or they will tow you away. Walk inside and hear the old blues jazz and see the plain wood/metal interior. A real no frills place with long tables for family style eating. The menu is simple and the tables are lined with 5 sauces. They are a mild vinegar based sauces and the hot one was really hot and flavorful. We chose brisket which was tender and tasty. The pork ribs had a good flavor, a little fatty and tough. Sides were macaroni cheese which again was no.grills but enjoyable. The beans were really good, cornbread was good but dry and needed butter. The people who run and really nice. I would come back and try the brisket sandwich with coleslaw on top, looked yummy!

Omg!! This BBQ was the bomb! Their coleslaw was super delicious. I had the tri-tip sandwich with the coleslaw on top. This place is nothing special it's a little hole in the wall, cafeteria style seating and the food is incredible! Their sauces are excellent and you can get you meat by the pound and take it home for the family! Definitely worth the drive.

Really good BBQ place! I stopped here for dinner tonight after finding it on yelp with great reviews. Yelpers haven't let me down! I ordered a pulled pork plate. I was really disappointed that they didn't have any collard greens left when I got up to the counter to order, because they are my favorite BBQ side dish. I wish I had gotten to try them, but everything else was good anyway. I ordered two sides of coleslaw and I tried a bite of the Mac and cheese and baked beans from others at my table. It was all very good. The brisket looked so juicy! Prices are also very reasonable! Pulled pork plate with two sides is only $9.99! Brisket was $12.99 and ribs were $13.99. Oh, and they also had 1/4 and 1/2 chickens. The BBQ sauces on the table were pretty good. My favorite was the mustard sauce. They had a regular bbq that was very sweet, too sweet for my taste, and a spicy bbq that was sweet and spicy. And then a white sauce that I couldn't figure out...mayo/vinegar? Definitely worth a try!

So, honestly, I describe myself as someone who doesn't like BBQ, which isn't entirely true. I like meats, I LOVE the sides....but maybe I'm less than enamored with the BBQ sauces? I make pulled pork at home all the time, slather it with some store bought honey BBQ sauce and life is great, so maybe I just don't enjoy these home-made BBQ sauces? I'm sure it's because it's something I didn't grow up with, so when a coworker and good friend suggested we go to Blue Willy's for lunch specifically on Thursday to get the pastrami I wasn't all that excited. But the Yelper in me knew I had to check it out for research purposes. My friend warned us that we needed to get there early and after reading Frank B's review of a Thursday and I knew we had to rush. We arrived at 11:25am and there was already a line of ~20 people ahead of us. BTW parking was hard. We parked one block back on the sidewalk and definitely wondered in the back of our minds if the car would be towed, there was a no-parking sign, but we're renegades ;) lol. The doors opened promptly at 11:30am and the line moved forward allowing us barely in the door. Then the line stopped. Ok, so it didn't stop, but it moved slowly. I was started to wonder what sort of operation they were running when I finally realized people were not only placing their lunch order, but getting things to go and making things much slower. So yes, this place is popular, noted again when the cashier had to ring up a phone-in order for $183! Finally it was my turn to order. Since pastrami isn't something I'm familiar with, and bread isn't only my diet this week, I went with the two-meat platter - pulled pork and brisket, with two sides - mac and cheese and coleslaw. Ok, so mac and cheese isn't on my diet either, but how else can you trust me to really review a BBQ joint? I smartly ordered to go although we were eating in, as I knew the portion would be too large and would result in left overs. So the food - MAC AND CHEESE - yes, this is a winner. I loved it. COLESLAW - I'm picky about my coleslaw, and this one wasn't the best, but was above average. BRISKET - I had sneaking suspicions that I don't actually like brisket, and I'm pretty sure it's still not one of my favorite meats, but it was edible. PULLED PORK - awesome. PASTRAMI - I had a few slices from others. Very moist and definitely better than the brisket. Not sure I understand the hype, but that's just me. There were several sauces on the table. Of course I was drawn to the white one and imagined a delicious aioli. Turns out it's some kind of vinegar sauce that put me off at first, but then I decided I liked it and tossed it on my meat. I also added what I believe to be their signature BBQ - no marking on the bottle, which was also pretty heavily vinegar-based, but worked well tossed with the white sauce. But I'd still prefer my store-bought honey BBQ sauce ;) Overall, I'd go back if someone asks me. I can't think of any other BBQ place that I've enjoyed this much, so that's saying something.

I enjoy bbq mostly for the sides, but when some coworkers wanted to try out Blue Willy's for pastrami Thursday I couldn't say no. We arrived a bit before opening to find a line assembled outside and parking was tricky. People are very serious about this pastrami. It is only offered on Thursdays and they close when they run out. I ordered the pastrami sandwich on rye with mustard and coleslaw. The sandwich was somewhere around $11 and HUGE. Tell them you want it to go even if you are eating in, it will save you a trip back up to the counter for a box. The pastrami was delicious and I really enjoyed the mustard. I was being "healthy" so I didn't order any sides, but a bite of the mac and cheese proved off a friend's plate that is something quite delicious. Next time maybe I will be "healthy" by doing sides instead of meat (that's how it works right?). I took half the sandwich home and put it in the fridge where my brother found it later and helped himself declaring that that was the most meat he had ever seen on a half sandwich. I can't speak for any other days, but if you come on Thursday expect a little bit of a long lunch. The staff does the best they can but the line does move a little slowly, probably with people making larger group orders to leave with. It's worth the wait though, and I would happily go back and try more of the regular menu.

Yelp you've served me well yet again. I grew up on Tom's place in Boca. I've had such a difficult time finding BBQ that kicked ass, until I found Willy's. As others have mentioned parking in front of the restaurant can be difficult. I usually park across the street in the TJ Maxx plaza. There are a decent amount of tables if you're going to eat in. You place your order at the counter. If you order brisket they slice it right in front of you. I've been here several times and everything that my wife or I have ordered has been awesome. The brisket is nice and tender. The pulled pork has a great smoked flavor. The ribs are excellent. The baked beans, collard greens & Mac & cheese are all awesome. The diablo sauce is what I normally use. The traditional house sauce is really good. I haven't tried any of the other sauces. I make the trek from Boca for takeout when I need my BBQ fix!!!!! All in all go and try everything. You won't be disappointed.

My dad took my family here today and it was delicious! When we arrived the line was out the door and parking was very limited (be careful to park as marked or you WILL get towed.. We saw 3 cars get towed while we where here) but the smell was intoxicating! I got the Two Meat Platter that comes with 2 side ($15.99) so I chose Pork Ribs, Pulled Pork, Baked Beans and Mac and Cheese and my fiancé got the Pastrami on a Roll to split. The Ribs were absolutely amazing and I didn't need any sauce, I just savored each delicious bite. The Pastrami was delicious, again I didn't find the need to add anything to it and we both devoured our halves in no time. The Pulled Pork I found a bit dry so I used a mix of their hot and regular BBQ sauce which was good but a bit heavy on the Vinegar for my taste. The Baked beans were delicious and flavorful and the Mac and Cheese was yummy but a bit too creamy/soupy for my taste. Overall I would say this place is a must stop when I visit my dad from here on out!

2-DAY CRAWL OF THE TOP-RATED BBQ restaurants in Miami/Fort Lauderdale. We're both huge BBQ fans, and we'll versed on the subject. These reviews are only for the meat. We did not heavily weigh the sides or prices, since they were all acceptable. Sparky's Roadside BBQ, Miami - My nephew's favorite of the group. Small-town diner ambiance, delicious, smokey, authentic, moist BBQ, no sauce needed, generous portions, diner-style service. Swine Southern Table & Bar, Coral Gables - elegant BBQ? A quirky combination of trendy style and dressed up cuisine, soft but bland meat helped by creative sauces, chef instead of pit master, professional staff. We both enjoyed the restaurant, but couldn't rave about the BBQ. Most expensive of the group. Blue Willy's BBQ, Pompano Beach - Food truck graduated to extremely authentic BBQ restaurant, smokey, casual dining room with long tables, samples while waiting in line, good BBQ, but both ribs and brisket need the help of sauce for moisture and flavor. Park at Midas across the street. Father & Sons Smoke Til U Choke BBQ, Fort Lauderdale - Next to the Swap Shop, picnic tables on the porch, smokers out back, nice aroma, sadly, dry chicken and ribs which could not be rescued by their strange sauce. The only one we would not recommend. We ate dinner here and theorized that the meat had been cooked early in the day and dried out in the smoker. Pride & Joy BBQ, Wynwood - My favorite of the group. Clever interpretation of rustic BBQ joint with lots of picnic tables out back, friendly albeit casual service, big and open late, delicious, moist BBQ, no sauce needed, but good sauces if you're so inclined, good sides, nice aroma for blocks.

Great little place. Went on a Thursday and it was really busy. Wonderful BBQ. About the polish deli. Don't just bitch about them. Go in there! Great variety of Polish food, I've been back there three times to buy their Kielbasa from Chicago. Very nice people in the deli. One good thing... When I go to the deli there is always a place to park.

Me and my friend were craving food, but didn't quite know what we wanted to eat. I used Yelp to look for suitable restaurants (he lives in Coconut Creek) I didn't find anything that I was craving so I looked a little further and stumbled across Blue Willy's BBQ. The reviews looked promising and I convinced my friend to drive even though it was a little out of the way. The restaurant is located in a tiny unassuming shopping center between a psychic and a Polish Market (will need to check that out sometime) and doesn't look like anything fancy. Once inside, the place looks insanely legit and smells fantastic!!! The restaurant has an order counter, and you order what you want and sit down. The decor definitely fits the bill and looks like a BBQ place from the deep South. For my meal, I ordered the 2 meat combo and chose 1/4 bbq chicken (dark meat) and since the pulled pork had just come out of the smoker, I got that too. They actually have an amazing by the bottle beer selection and I come the Founders Breakfast Stout to go with the bbq. I had spied a bit of brisket as I was sitting down and I asked about it. When I went to go sit down the guy had brought me and my friend two slices of brisket to try! How awesome!! It was delicious!!!! The meal itself was incredible and they have an array of amazing sauces to go with it (most are vinegar based which I love) I have had a decent amount of BBQ (including some from South Carolina) and this rivals that for sure. It was that good. It comes with your choice of sides and I got collard greens and Mac and cheese and cornbread. It was all excellent, but the cornbread was a tad too dry but nothing to complain about since it still tasted great. All in all this has become one of the best BBQ places I've ever been to and I would definitely go out of my way to eat here again. If you love BBQ you NEED to eat here!

I recently dinner at Tom Jenkins and thought the restaurants had similar reviews, so I'll give Blue Wily's a try. Drove over 30 minutes to this restaurant and noticed there was no parking. We ended up parking at the auto store which was across the street. We ordered the pulled pork platter with baked beans and mac & cheese. We also ordered the beef brisket platter with coleslaw and mac & cheese. The platters were served shortly after we ordered and I noticed a piece of white bread, and a basket pickles and onions - which I've never seen but supposedly that's a southern thing. On the menu, it comes with "bread" but I made the mistake thinking it was corn bread not white bread. After I realized that, I ordered 2 pieces of corn bread. I noticed they didn't have a deep fryer, which is odd because I always order French fries while eating bbq food. I wish they had more than 4 side items to choose from. Overall, the food was good but it wasn't great. Maybe it's because I didn't order what everyone was Yelping about - the pastrami, which is only made on Thursdays. The prices are slightly overpriced, especially since you have to order the corn bread on the side. I personally prefer Tom Jenkin's over this place. Reasons why.. First, parking is easier. Second, they have more side items. Third, it's cheaper. Fourth, it's closer.

This place is great. This is hands-down the best barbecue that I've had in Florida. The brisket was fantastic moist and tender with great flavor. I'm going to go ahead and say this is the best brisket I've had anywhere, including Texas. Pork was good and sides were kind of a throwaway. But you're not going to come here for the sides.

DUUUUDDDDEEEEEE!!!! My beau and I went to Pompano for a little get away back in April. My family lives in Delray Beach and I have a good friend who lives in Pompano. None of them had ever been to Blue Willy's. The sauce was fire! The pulled pork - fire! It was so good we're considering a trip back just for the BBQ. We're still talking about it almost 3 months later! The only thing we didn't absolutely love was the cornbread. It's just too dry - but we were so focused on the BBQ that we barely noticed!

This place sucks on everything. Don't go. Take my word on this one. Unless you love vinegar, and I like a vinegar based sauce, but this is ridiculous. All you can taste is vinegar. The 3 available sauces have no labels whatsoever. The meat was tender but did not remind me of barbecue; it reminded like they bought it already cooked and were simply slicing it up. I asked for finely chopped and got big chunky pieces. There were next to no burnt end pieces anywhere and while it was tender it had ABSOLUTELY NO SEASONINGS WHATSOEVER. It was so bland. The corn bread did not taste much like corn bread and reminded me more of a cake texture, box mix corn bread. The baked beans didn't have a bad flavor, but the beans were HARD, making it inedible for me. The cole slaw may have been the worst I've had in my life and once again ALL VINEGAR. WTF, who is the person loading this vinegar everywhere. Maybe I'm too picky being that my family is from the south, but this is one place I can tell you is not high on the list of great places to go for barbecue. There is no parking whatsoever. 3 spots in front. I had to park across the street in the shopping center's parking lot and cross Federal Highway (at my own risk). And for the record, look for the barbecue pit. Not only did I not see one, you do not smell it anywhere in the air as you are approaching from the outside. If you go elsewhere, you can smell the barbecue in the air. There was absolutely no pit in this place that I saw. When all done, myself and my date had 2 pork sandwiches; we shared sides which were 1 side of cole slaw, 1 side of baked beans, and 1 cornbread, with 2 cans of coke. Note that the sides are what I would call "very small", but since they are inedible, there's plenty to share with someone. ;) The bill was approx. $35. Again, WTF.

First, let's clear up the address of this place that is displayed in Yelp. The address is 1384 S. Federal Highway, not 1386. If you enter the Yelp address in your GPS it will come back as not a valid address. Now, to the food. For me, the top BBQ place in S. Florida is Tom Jenkins, also on Federal Highway, in Fort Lauderdale. When comparing food for this area, they're the ones to beat. Unfortunately for Blue Willy, they come up short. We sampled the pulled pork, the brisket and the ribs, along with the collard greens, baked beans and cole slaw. All of the meats were tender and well cooked, but had little if any smoke flavor. The taste was, surprisingly, bland across all of the meats we tried. While the brisket was very tender and well cooked, the ribs could have been cooked just a bit more. Perfectly cooked is when your teeth can easily separate the meat from the bone. These ribs took quite a bit of pulling and could have used another 30 minutes in the smoker. There are no plates used here, paper or otherwise. If you eat in the restaurant, you eat off a tray lined with butcher paper. Sides are served in paper boats as well. BBQ sauce gets poured directly on the meat or into one of the side dish containers. The service was friendly and eager, and I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately, the food just isn't that distinguished, especially if you're used to real southern BBQ. I, for one, definitely will spend the extra few minutes in the car and drive down to Tom Jenkins for my next fix of BBQ.

I had dinner on this Saturday and Sunday at Blue Willys and was not disappointed. The collard greens and mac and cheese were delicious. In Tulsa, Oklahoma, BurnCo is the best bbq, but in comparison, Blue Willys is my allround best. There side items are great. Thier brisket is my favorite. I recommend this place.

This was my first time here and the place is really really good. The pulled pork is my favorite, and the sides were very very good. They have the best slaw I've had in a while here. My only complaint was the food was a tad cold but the was really good so I'm gonna look past it. Overall I would def come back and when I do I'll try the pulled pork sandwich which looked amazing. The ambiance was really casual and laid back and super chill. Nice place to hang out and bring some friends.

  • Craig B.

The inside was as unimpressive as the outside of this place. The pork BBQ was cooked well, however it had no memorable flavor. The BBQ sauce on the table looks like something left over from a high school science experiment (in weird looking bottles)... and tastes like it too. I was literally afraid to put it on my sandwich. Not going back.

Here's the deal...I'm from Texas and I know good BBQ - This place is a good representation of Texas BBQ! The sauce is a blend between Carolina vinegar based sauce and the sweet base of Texas, but very good! We tried ribs, brisket, sausage and pulled pork it was great!

I have heard that this place was good and saw there were good reviews. I decided to stop in last week. The parking is horrible, you can clearly see there is a huge feud going on with this place and the corner sausage store.just from reading the signs that are on the wall you almost don't want to go in. I went in and ordered a few things. I will say first impression is everything, the staff is not friendly at all, kind of cold and stand off ish. not what i was expecting. It wasn't late it wasn't early, didn't seem like there was an excuse for this behavior. oh well I still placed an order. the place has such a strong smokey smell that i came home and had to change my clothes because i kept smelling the smoke. I might have a sensitive nose but I couldn't handle it. Moving on. I ordered brisket and ribs. I thought my husband would love it but i was wrong. he couldn't understand the hype, all he tasted was the liquid smoke, or whatever they use to smoke their meats. He said I make a better brisket. Nice compliment. I thought the food was good, i thought the sauce was what gave the taste. Glad I tried it but doubt I will go back. We have had better. Glad people like this place. a bit stressful with the parking. I have heard people get towed if they park in the wrong place. Not right the city of Pompano should fix this issue.

ok, this review is based off pastrami, pastrami, pastrami.... I finally got there because it's only on Thursdays, they open at 11:30 (and will have a line 15-20 deep by then) and when they run out they run out, I've heard 3pm but now have started hearing 2pm or earlier. (for those that don't know the story they make it there, it's like a 5 week process) The pastrami was amazing, service is friendly, they cut it right in front of you, by knife, how it's supposed to be! I'll take this over the big NY Delis that make their own and cut by knife also... I'll also give a shout-out to the mac and cheese and corn bread which were both really good! My advice... get there by 11:15, parking will be full (don't park on federal, they will ticket and tow you, and don't park in the spots marked for other business), park legally on a side street, you'll have to walk 1-2 blocks... you'll be in line... but better than after they open and lunch time hits and the chaos hits... with this being so good I'll have to go back sometime and try some of the other items... on a slow day!

Yeah so I'm a huge fan of this place. I drive out of my way past home to go here on a Friday night and get the ribs and the fantastic brisket. Man when I say that there food is delicious, I mean it. Also the first time I went the gentleman behind could tell I had not been there before as I was reading the yelp reviews. He yelled over to the owner, "Hey we got a newbie" and he carved a piece of brisket for me to taste. I've been a fan ever since.

I am giving Blue Willies 3 Stars for lunch today. I had heard so much about this BBQ from his years on a food truck. Food - Brisket - 2 Stars -looked great - bland tasting meat. Somewhat disappointing. Ribs - 3 1/2 Stars - nice dry rubbed moist tasty ribs. Sides - a good crisp slaw & good beans. The value here are the ribs. I didn't try the pulled pork or chicken. The sauces were good served in large bottles on the family style tables. Overall a good addition to the Ft Lauderdale food scene.

Great Texas BBQ in South Florida. Everything is delicious. The Brisket is juicy and flavorful. The Ribs are done just right and the Sausage is as tasty as can be. The sides are excellent. The greens are well seasoned, the beans are sweet & smokey and the Mac & Cheese ought to be illegal. Order some of the corn bread also - you won't be disappointed. Great selection of BBQ sauces. If there's no parking in front find a spot on the street or park across the street - it's worth the walk. The place is informal so if you're looking for plates and silverware - take your elitist self elsewhere but if you're looking for the best BBQ in South Florida - this is the place

Yessss! This place is just all that is right in the world. I've had the pulled pork, it was amazing. Then a few weeks passed and I came back for the brisket, it's the best brisket I've ever had! Also the corn bread is fantastic, as the coleslaw, and the Mac n cheese... Basically you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I can't wait to go back and try everything on the menu. Best BBQ in south florida.

My wife and I heard about this place from her coworker and all I can say is.... MIND BLOWN! I have never been to Texas but this has to be the closest thing to it in south Florida!

Here's an update. I've been going to Blue Willies for a few years now and always had the brisket, ribs and pastrami. Well yesterday based on other reviews I tried the pulled pork sandwich on an onion roll and coleslaw(on top). This is now my go to sandwich(other than pastrami Thursday) it's absolutely delicious! A must have!! Thanks Wil for another amazing meal!!

The BEST bbq I've had in South Florida! Sadly, the accommodations aren't nearly big enough for the crowd that frequents Willy's. There are only a small handful of parking spaces (no thanks to the bad neighbor next door who polices the Polish deli parking lot- the guy is just plain awful, and I feel sorry that Willy has to be located next to him). Willy's pastrami on Thursday is mouth-watering delicious and will darn near melt in your mouth. It's that good! Get there early for Thursday lunch. The line goes out the building at times. Also, be careful where you park here. I hope Willy considers moving soon to support his fast-growing business!

I don't give 5 stars often but here's why i did. I'm a Florida native. I've eaten BBQ my whole life here and have never really been blown away. Sometimes I can find a good baby back rib but other than that, chicken and briskets are almost always dry and way too overly smoked. I've traveled a lot and in my travels I've had some great BBQ and always wondered why can't anyone in Florida get it right. Well this place does it right. I have NEVER seen beef brisket look and taste the way it does here.....only on TV BBQ competitions. When the owner cuts into this brisket, you can see the juices and you get an awesome outside bark. They always cut me pieces that contain the right amount of fat. When the crisp bark fat hits your lips, it literally melts leaving you saying DAMN! The chicken is awesome and not overly smoked. You won't see tons of pink smoke ring inside. The skin is crispy and delicious. All the sides are great. The only gripe and it's not affecting 5 stars because I'm basing my review off pure BBQ technique and flavor. I'd say the onion roll that they serve the sandwiches on was cold and fresh out of the refrigerator. If the rolls were warm and slightly steamed, it would be amazing. Two other things I really need to mention is that the parking situation sucks. The location is amazing but trying to pull into that small lot is very dangerous right off federal hwy. What they need to do is buy that shitty Polish deli at the end of the plaza right next to them. Build the restaurant out larger and keep all the parking spots. Right now people are parking at the Midas auto place across the street. Every Thursday is PASTRAMI DAY (hand cut smoked) and I still haven't tasted it yet because the parking sucks so bad. Plus you need to get there early before the pastrami runs out. Oh and they play the best soulful music. I friggin love this place and would come more often if it were easy to park the car.

So far the best barbecue I've found down here. I'd give 4 1/2 if I could. I'm taking 1/2 a star off for the rye that is soft crust instead of one that would hold up to the luscious meats. Pulled pork- moist, well smoked hand pulled with bits of char. Not a huge fan of their slaw. Pastrami, only available on Thursday's is excellent, but quite assertive with loads of pepper, coriander and other pickling spices. Well priced.

Blue Willy's is the real deal! To feed our party of 5 we ordered some of each of the meats on the menu along with a number of sides. We ordered by weight rather than ordering individual meals. They sliced it up and weighed it right in front of us. Everything we had was exceptionally good. The meats were all moist and flavorful. The seasoning was just right - not overdone. This is excellent Texas-style BBQ through and through. Ribs, sausage, brisket, pulled pork were all fantastic. Sauces tasted homemade and were served in glass quart-sized bottles. The beans and slaw were above average. The greens and cornbread were superb and I highly recommend those to compliment the meats. I have a discerning sense of taste and have had high end BBQ in all the BBQ-towns (KC, Dallas, Memphis). Blue Willy's deserves a spot among the best. The kitchen and food prep areas are wide open and fully visible. This appears to be a clean restaurant. Food is served on trays covered with brown paper. In addition, the decor and appearance are somewhat sparse and make you wonder whether the furniture was accumulated from a dozen different garage sales. It gives the place a down home feel and it feels authentic. Enjoy!

  • Jim G.

This place goes out of its way to be at the extreme of casual. Food is great. Prices are ok. The line sometimes goes out the front door and because of a parking war, be careful not to park in the wrong area or a tow truck arrives to relieve you of your chariot. I know other reviewers have already attested to the excellent pastrami, and that alone is worth the trip. I, however, also go for the brisket and pork and the multiple homemade barbecue sauce choices.

Blue Willy's is awesome especially on Thursday. He make fresh house made Pastrami that is one of the best things that I have EVER eaten. It is amazing. Be prepared to wait as there was a line out the door at noon. Get there early because he sold out by 1:00 p.m. on the day that we were there. Blue Willy's is a real treat. It demonstrates some of the greatness that can be found in true American food.

I just got home with my food had the pulled pork plate with slaw & beans OMG I am in heaven by far the best BBQ I have ever had. My husband got the rib plate with beans & collards, I have never had greens before but these were awesome will definitely be going back for more.

another I'm from texas and know good BBQ person here - anyhow, perfect ribs, brisket, perfect smoke rings - I didn't waste any time on sides the service could use a little expediting, but other than that, perfect. oh and don't get towed - parking is terrible

I stopped by here on a whim and are very happy that I did. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside houses one of the best pulled pork sandwiches I've had. Moist, succulent and delicious. The portion of pork is huge! Sauces are provided on the table and I didn't know which is which since they weren't labeled. Perhaps that was a good thing. Their regular sauce is great and not too sweet, which I prefer since too much sweet can hide the sandwich flavors. I'm not a big mustard bbq sauce person, but I kept going back to it. It was the perfect mix and not overbearing. I will certainly return with my family for another visit.

They have great bbq. You get a good amount of food with your orders for a great price. Parking is terrible. They only have a few spots to park out front and if you park In the wrong parking spots your car gets booted and or towed fast! Be cautious!

Best brisket I've had in FL. On par with (if not better than) the best Carolina/Mississippi brisket. Rich in flavor, tenderness, & juicy as hell!!! The mac n cheese is also fantastic. Perfect texture. Their 4 homemade sauces are all great and compliment the food perfectly. Not to mention they play good Blues music to completely set the place off. When I hear Howlin Wolf or John Lee Hooker playing in a BBQ joint, they automatically gain some more of my trust. This place is for people who like real BBQ, not oh let's say Flannigan's ribs... and their "signature" sauce that comes in a generic bucket from SYSCO (that they add a little bit of honey to, in order to off-set the generic taste).

I just totally murdered a brisket smothered in barbecue sauce, (I mixed original and spicy together) pit smoked beans, collard greens and of course 2 slices of white Wonder Bread :) We got to meet Blue Willy himself (he was behind the counter working). The man really knows how to do work on meat! Many other already posted pictures, the menu etc. Visit! Parking sucks so it may be worth it to go non peak hours.

Best BBQ I've had down here in a LONG time! Maybe it is Texas style, but it sure did taste like the good old south to me. Sorry Mr. JENKINS, you've got some serious competition now. The brisket melts in you're mouth & the chicken doesn't even need any of the homemade sauces (I'm super picky about chicken in general). The sweet girl taking my order got it wrong but it didn't matter, everything was absolutely delish! Whatever you order, you will not go wrong! Don't expect any fancy decor -- Oh and handle those giant jugs of sauce on the table with care, they are slippery little suckers (and tasty too!)

3 stars only because the massive amount of meat they give you! Otherwise it would be two. Am Southern, unlike most in S. Florida and love real Southern BBQ. This is not that place. Everything was good-but it's more like a kosher kitchen than BBQ joint w taste and feel. Go to Sonny's.

I happened to see this place while sitting at the light one day. I checked yelp and saw all the positive reviews so I figured I'd give it a shot. I'm glad I did. I got the half pound of brisket which was cooked perfectly. It had a great smoke ring and had great bark. My buddy got the pulled pork and said it was great. I hear some people say that parking can be a pain but I had no problems. I'll definitely be coming back

Found this BBQ place on Yelp and gave it a try while visiting family nearby. This place is the real deal - we recommend this place to anyone who loves carefully prepared BBQ cooked low and slow. Having lived previously in TX and currently living in NC, my wife and I really miss eating TX style BBQ - especially beef brisket. After flying in to south FL today, we drove directly to Blue Willies. Small place, but clean and comfortable. We shared a combo plate with ribs and brisket, baked beans, collard greens, a couple slices of bread, and iced tea. Meal Served on a tray covered with butcher paper (as in traditional TX BBQ places) We truly enjoyed our meal - delicious sides and meats cooked perfectly. Tender, Great flavor and texture - the brisket was outstanding. We left very little on our tray. We paid $19 all in. Very reasonable price for this delicious meal. Also have to say the proprietor and his staff are friendly and accommodating to a diverse crowd of customers (dine in & takeout) all of whom were happy. BB King live concert recording played during our meal was a plus! But slim pickings on parking in front of the store. However, there are places close by to park.

This place is fantastic, one of the best bbq places I have ate at and I have ate all across the country. The brisket and chicken is very juicy and flavorful, you can tell it's made with incredible artisan.

The best barbecue in Florida. The inside may not be much to marvel at, but the food is fantastic. The ribs are out of this world, and I love the mac and cheese. Everything we had was great. (I had to sign up for a yelp account so I could rave about this place)

I'm so happy his business has taken off! The food here is best in Broward, and I used to drive all the way to FT Lauderdale when he had a little food truck. If he sells out of meat early he does close, so be aware if you are driving from far. My favorite is the brisket, and just thinking about it makes my mouth water. He knows his stuff on BBQ. One day, I'd like to make it in for the Pastrami everyone keeps raving about!

Great BBQ I'm stuffed right now!!! Got the 2 meat platter and am stuffed! Everything tasted great! Time to sleep now

A miserable experience, parking is horrible, (about four spots total!!), you have to park down the street and hope you do not get towed. Then you wait on line for the guy cutting the meat to take your order, someone else takes your side orders then you pay a third person where you have to tell them what you ordered again.... Fully self serve, refills take for every while you try to catch someones attention. The BBQ is OK but expensive. The rest of the experience screams "Don't Come Back!" . There are better BBQ alternatives in the Pompano/Fort Lauderdale area to go to!

One word...OUTSTANDING! We just got back from this place and I can confirm that it is everything that you have read about and more. I had the brisket/pork shoulder combination platter and honestly both meats were so flavorful that I really did not need to add BBQ sauce but I just had to try their selection they have siting on the table. If you like hot/spicy the "El Diablo" is great and will definitely give your taste buds a good burn, the red BBQ sauce was awesome and filled with flavor and had just the right amount of sweetness, and the yellow (mustard based) sauce also had a ton of flavor. I did not try the white sauce but my daughter mentioned that it had a taste of vinegar and she really liked it. Back to the good stuff...the brisket is hands down the best brisket I have ever had in Florida nothing even comes close. The meat was cooked perfectly, had a beautiful smoke ring, and was so tender and juicy that it melted in my mouth. The pork shoulder, my God, delicious. Once again the pork shoulder was tender, cooked perfectly, and was juicy and full of flavor. This place is great and I highly recommend it, the owner seems like he actually cares and even asked us a couple of times from behind the counter what we thought. I thought that I wanted to get up and hug/kiss the guy the BBQ was that good. Needless to say we will be back.

1st lunch at Blue Willy's, arrived a little before the lunch rush. We shared a brisket sandwich w/slaw on an onion roll and a pulled pork sandwich w/slaw on an onion roll. Sides of collards, baked beans and cornbread all 3 were done with southern goodness flavors and great taste. The sandwiches were very good with generous portions of the moist meats, great tasting slaw and soft and tasty onion rolls. Tried several homemade sauces available on the family style dining tables, BBQ and hot my favorites. Would definitely recommend Blue Willys and will return to try the Pastrami which is currently only available on Thursdays. A great BBQ find in SFL

Simply the best brisket and equally good pork! We stumbled upon this place when on vacation, and made it past the looks from the outside (as well as inside) and glad we did!!! We will be back!

Great place for BBQ is south Florida, maybe the best. The brisket and pulled pork are fantastic. The mac and cheese is pretty good as well. Service is minimal as the good is why you come here.

Best BBQ in south Florida... They really care about the food. The brisket is a must have I order it every time. Hopefully they solve the parking situation. It's not sit down service so don't expect a fancy place.

On point! Not much to show for it in the restaurant regarding decor, but by far the most authentic bbq in south Florida. The ribs and brisket were perfect, and the 3 bbq sauces on the table are excellent. Highly recommended!

While searching for a place to have a family meal, a neighbor suggested Blue Willy's. A quick check online found great reviews - not that I did not trust Bill's recommendation...and we only had an hour to closing time. Arrived, ordered, and were eating in minutes. Three of us had rib plates, the fourth had chicken. We had sides of corn bread, beans, cole slaw, and mac and cheese, all of which were excellent, but the surprise side that stole the show was the collard greens. Don't really know what they are, where they come from, or how they were seasoned, but they were awesome ! The ribs were as thick and meaty and perfectly smoked as any I have ever seen. So delicious that I was eating them without BBQ sauce, but I am glad I sauced them up after I ate the first couple ribs because their BBQ sauce is absolutely incredible. The chicken was perfectly cooked and also delicious. Not of the smoked meats were over smoked, mild at best. Brought out the real flavor of the meat. My only regret is that they do not sell bottles of their homemade sauce to go. I guess I will just have to keep coming back to get it !

This place is real deal Texas BBQ in South Florida. That brisket is insanely good n tender n juicy. Makes me salivate just thinkin about it. Corn Bread and Mac-n-cheese are both cant miss sides. Do yourself a favor and go to Blue Willys when your looking for awesome BBQ

Rolls of kitchen towels on the tables so you know this establishment is gen_u_ine!! I saw some split wood too for the BBQ smoker just so you know this is real wood smoked BBQ and not that phony-baloney stuff done in an oven with some wood chips smoke piped in. Anyways..... Got the Texas style brisket- Kreuz sausage combo plate with coleslaw and beans, two slices bread, some pickles and onions on the side for $11.99. So much meat overload I had to take some home. I'll give Blue Willy's 9 out of 10 on the BBQ ratings. Generous portions. Sliced right in front of you at the counter where you walk up to, to get your grub. No waiters. Good selection of beers. I had a sample of the pastrami (only available Thursdays) and it was very good Sandwiches-- Kreuz sausage is $6.99 Brisket is $8.99 Plates with two sides and two slices bread were in the $10-$11 range. Ribs are also on the menu. 1lb brisket by itself is $13.99 and it is good There was a red BBQ sauce and yellow mustard based sauce. Both were excellent with the mustard sauce surprisingly good for a change of pace. There were some hot BBQ sauces but I did not try them

My hubby and I love to go to this place on Thursdays for their pastrami sandwich. We have not tried anything else nor are we planning on trying anything else. Definitely go on Thursdays and make sure you are not in a rush as there tends to be a long line.

I wanted to try the St. Louis rib plate but found it was only 3 ribs. It comes with 2 sides. They don't offer a half rack plate. So, you have to buy a half rack for $10.99 then buy 2 sides for another $5.00. Ok, $15.99 a little pricey but if its great que who cares. Herein lies the problem. The ribs were barely warm. They would have been pretty good ribs if they were hot. They offer several different sauces, all vinegary. I happen to like a vinegar based sauce. The diablo sauce fit the bill. The white sauce not so much. I suggest adding a sweet tomato based Memphis style for the folks who prefer that taste. The beans were very average, just ok. The coleslaw tasted like it was out of a bag. Why is it so hard to make a slaw from fresh cut cabbage and veggies. Maybe I will give them a second chance. I would like to see another great local BBQ.

Went to try this place based on the ratings. Frankly it was the best bbq ever!! We had the ribs, pulled pork and brisket. We also had the mac n cheese and baked beans for the sides. Dont be fooled by the outside. Highly recommend if in the area.

The ribs were succulent & tender, not to fatty. Mac n' cheese was cheesy & greens good, stuffed when I left. They didn't get 5 stars because they didn't have dessert! Ima fan.

Simply put, the best BBQ joint in south florida. There's no place that matches the Brisket or the spare ribs. I've eaten BBQ from all the greats and this place is the truth. great sides great slaw and BBQ beans and just all around an excellent place. Spare ribs are must to order each and every time.

  • Chris V.

Had the brisket and ribs and they were both great. In fact the brisket was the best I've ever had. The rub was great and the spicy barbecue sauce was really good. Sides were respectable but nothing to write home about. Overall the best barbecue I've had in south Florida. Definitely will go again!

Was in Broward County a few weeks ago and I'm always searching for top notch BBQ. And I hadn't found it, until now. Saw reviews on Yelp and thought I'd get take out and head home to Palm Beach Gardens with dinner in hand. There's a lot about this place that is not 5 stars. The cole slaw I thought was fair. The beans were runny and tasted heavy with vinegar. The collard greens were okay, with lots of shredded pork in them. The cornbread was good. Parking is awful -- there's literally just four spaces in front of the place and that's it. So why the heck did I give this place 5 stars? Because the slab of ribs and full pound of brisket I got were absolutely outstanding so nothing else mattered to me. Ribs were perfectly smoked. Just the right tenderness -- real BBQ ribs the meat does not fall off the bone, but is still tender and has a slight chew like these did with just the right amount of smoke flavor. And as great as they were, the star of the show was the brisket. Ever watch any of those BBQ competition shows on TV? When they judge the brisket they look for a nice, dark bark. Got it! A smoke ring that adds just the right amount of flavor that's not overpowering. Got it! And it should be sliced thick and they take the piece of brisket, holding each end between thumb and fore finger, and then pull. It should give just a slight tug and then tenderly break apart. Got it! (I really did that). And juicy. You can see the moistness of the meat. Got it! And then they taste it, confirming the tenderness, moistness, wonderful flavor of meat, bark and smoke and if it's great the expression on their face is like if they died right there it would be okay because they just found perfection in the world. Got it! I've sampled food from many, many a BBQ joint and this is the first time I found the real deal.

True Texas style barbecue! Heavy smoke, great flavors and good size portions. Just like in Texas where this style of cooking came from it is order at the counter and sit in the very casual (mostly benches) dining room. All of the meat and sides are worth trying and they have a couple of sauces for you to try, but this place is about the meat as it comes out of the smoker, so sauce is just a fancy. Try it, you'll like it.

I had the brisket and pork combo with beans and cornbread. My brother had the brisket, chicken and collard greens. Everything was very good (including the next day's left-overs). have someone in your party grab a table while you wait on line to place your order. Not a fancy place, but it doesn't need to be.

Easily the best BBQ. Brisket phenomenal, macaroni great and good collards. Reminds me of all my Texas trips.

I have posted here before, love this place and those who work there. I recently went to Tom Jenkins, and it's not even close - - Willy's is in a different league - - made with passion, sliced with love! Shin, you are an idiot for posting on this website and giving a lousy review. If you want to try Willy's, show up and wait on line like everyone else! In fact, don't come, don't wait on line and ruin the experience for those of us with patience and common sense

My friend and I were looking for a new place for lunch, we stumbled across Blue Willy's. The atmosphere reminds me of a Texas BBQ restaurant. I had the Brisket Sandwich and my friend had the Pork....it was fantastic. Their special sauce really added to the meal. The Brisket was very tender. They are a little pricy, but if you don't eat there often it's like a treat. The only drawback is the parking, often times we have to park across Federal Highway at the Stein Mart shopping center and play frogger getting across. The Polish Deli and Psychic do not allow parking and strictly enforce it, one time we saw the owner of the deli rush out and put tire locks around the tires and called a tow company. Anyways, I really enjoyed this restaurant and highly recommend it.

Can I get an amen! How about a hallelujah?! I was long perplexed by the sign on Federal Highway that simply read, "Barbecue." I have always operated under the rule that the sketchier looking the place, the better the barbecue is, and Blue Willy's did not disappoint. I came at an in-between moment, as I was the only person there. I looked up at the menu, which is very simple and straightforward. You can order meats by the pound, or you can do plates, which come with sliced white bread and two sides. I ordered the pulled pork plate, and got the mac & cheese and baked beans as my two sides. I received a tray with a Texas sized portion. The homemade, jarred sauces decorate the mismatched tables, put together in sort of a cafeteria-esque manner. All of the country chairs are mismatched too, a wonderful touch that quickly makes you forget where you are and adds to the barbecue charm. Like I said, I was the only person in there for the beginning of my meal. It was just me and the barbecue. I poured the sweet barbecue sauce all over my pulled pork, and shoved it into my mouth. It melted. I melted. The mac and cheese was super tasty, and I even ate the beans, and I never eat the beans! Needless to say, I enjoyed my experience. The only thing that is an issue is the parking. I have driven past this place and there are people waiting for the doors to open. This is the main reason why it has taken me so long to try this place! If you are cruising down Federal and see a spot open in front of this place, snag that opportunity and you will have a wonderful barbecue experience.

I would have just driven by this if not for yelp. Just had a sign saying barbeque chicken beef pork and ribs, plus little parking BUT the steady stream of people coming in, keeping 5 deep in line all the time for this ma and pa place, tells it all! Had the brisket plate, which was the 3/4 pound of delicious meat! To top it off was the jalepeno corn bread! I could have made a meal with it. So moist, it was almost like cake. I saved half of it for dessert!

As good as the brisket in the Texas Hill Country! And the smoked chicken was fabulous, too, along with the mac & cheese and the greens. Definitely a place we will visit again!

Simply delicious. I just moved to Imperial Point and was a bit disappointed to be further from the other two solid barbeque options (Redcow and Tom Jenkins). I heard about Blue Willy's and was a bit skeptical at first, but I have to say this place is the best of the best. Top marks to the rib tips - definitely grab an order if they happen to be serving them that day. Best I've ever had.

Ok...I have now been to Blue Willy's 4 or 5 times and all I can say is that it is CONSISTENTLY excellent. This is what a BBQ joint should be, and I use the term "joint" because that's just what it is. Do not go there expecting a fancy dining experience....go there for the incredibly good food! Some of the highlights on the menu are the pulled pork and the brisket and without a doubt the best collard greens I've ever eaten outside my Granny's kitchen! Thursdays are a must for their once a week house made pastrami...get there early as it is usually sold out by 2pm and don't even think of asking for a to go order of it before 2pm as they only serve it for dine in patrons up until around that time....it isn't often that there is any left by then anyway... The one big downside to this place as many have pointed out, is the parking....very limited and almost always full during the lunch hours, but the food is good enough to find parking anywhere you can find it and then walk to the front door! Their sauces are homemade and sit in large bottles on the tables: Traditional Texas tomato based red sauce, Carolina Mustard based yellow, and Alabama Mayo based white. All are delicious! I live in Wilton Manors and it's a bit of a hike to the south side of Pompano, but I am always happy to make the trip...Willy himself is always right there behind the counter slicing up WAY more meat than any human needs for a single meal....he and his staff are friendly and genuinely glad that you came!

Blue Willy's has the best BBQ that I've had in this area. I never visited their former food truck in downtown Fort Lauderdale, but heard good things. Now they have a new brick-and-mortar location in Pompano Beach on Federal. I stopped in last week and was impressed. The inside is decorated like an old-timey Texas BBQ joint. Blue Willy's serves Texas-style Q. We sampled the pulled pork and I ordered a brisket plate ($10.99, comes with 2 sides) that was fantastic. Big portions and the sides were good as well (collard greens, corn bread). They also have craft beer bottles in the cooler. Dale's Pale Ale for $3.50. Rogue Dead Guy, Native Lager, and a couple of others for $5. For now I am making this my go-to BBQ spot in Broward and plan to return soon. They do old school pastrami ($9.99 for a huge sandwich) every Thursday and it's fantastic as well.

Ok folks we put down 12 racks of Pork ribs 6 lb of Brisket 3 half chickens 4 pints of beans and one pint of Mac and cheese it was all fantastic . Down side to this is that there are no plates and makes dividing up the portions alittle cumbersome since there are no plates just trays with meat wrapping paper on them . All on all the food ,service and hospitality were great . A place I would again visit .

Best BBQ I have tasted in South Florida! This is a mom and pop place and it lives up to it's hype and it's worth the wait. Have been here 5 times now, every time - amazing! Check out the Pastrami on Thursdays! Everything here is top quality!

  • J L.

WOW!! Been eating BBQ a long time - from Texas to Nashville...and this brisket was among the best I've eaten (could use better bread though - the onion rolls were OK, but the other rolls were disappointing - seemed like a 'packaged hamburger bun). Nice thick, fresh baked rolls and bread would put it over the top - and the fantastic meats deserve the best breads? Haven't had Brisket in south Florida even close... Would never have found it without Yelp - thanks!!! The neighboring business with all the empty parking spots you can't use is ridiculous - resulting rough parking.

After reading the Yelp reviews, I assumed we were in for a great meal, when going here for the first time. My guy ordered their two-meat combo of pork ribs and brisket, with sides of mac & cheese and beans. I didn't want a lot of food, so I ordered the 1/2-lb of sausage, and shared it with him. The sausage was okay, but tasted a little better after I added some BBQ sauce on top. It didn't look at if it was grilled or BBQ'd; more like it was taken out of the refrigerator and heated up; no better tasting than a pack of Hillshire beef sausage I could buy for $4 in the market and heat up myself. The brisket was delicious, as well as the ribs. The mac & cheese as well as the beans weren't special either. I have to say I was disappointed somewhat on this first time experience eating their food, but since the reviews here are so positive, I'll give it another try in the future.

This is a place you will not discover if yelp is not used. The brisket was just perfect . The meat was soft, juice, flavorful and perfectly cooked . As good or better than Carolina's/Texas barbecue . Love it and will be back. By the amount of people going in and out is obvious that this place is very popular. Only 5 or 6 parking spots in the front but plenty parking across the street.

Blue Willy's has definitely become a favorite of ours. Hands down best BBQ we've ever had in SoFlo! The brisket is my absolute favorite, topped off with some of the mild BBQ sauce with their delicious Mac n cheese and pit smoked beans - which are AMAZING! Husband gets the two meat plate with pulled pork and ribs, double Mac n cheese and drowns it all in their hot sauce. Since we live down the street (about 1-2 miles away) we typically get our BBQ to go. This is where the problems start. Food wise, I have zero complaints. Service-wise however, there's much to be desired. On several occasions (during both busy and off hours) our orders will get mixed up. We eat here 1-2 times per week so this isn't an uncommon situation. We get home after being trapped in a car filled with the delicious aroma of perfectly cooked meat only to open our food and find maybe one food item is correct (and it's usually just a side order). Other than that issue, really this is an amazing restaurant! A TRUE DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH! If you're passing through its definitely worth a stop.

Everyone I know RAVES about this place and for good reason. I've only been once but loved their brisket. Can't wait to go back and try the pastrami on Thursday someday soon Be prepared for the Parking Lot Wars.. All these spots for a Polish deli are empty. So you park in the grass with a gazillion other cars. Enjoy the note on the way that says you did the right thing because apparently the deli will tow you and the folks at Blue Willy's BBQ are none too happy. Looking forward to my next visit.

Besides the crazy guy next door who hired someone to come give out tickets for everyone who parks in his parking spot to go eat BBQ the experience was lovely. They did a great job providing signage and reminding everyone about the parking situation. This is definitely a hole in the wall type place but they give you so much food and it's definitely delicious! I had the pulled pork, baked beans and mac n cheese, and Brandon had the ribs, baked beans, mac n cheese and we shared a piece of cornbread. The cornbread was soo good! The ribs weren't fall off the bone but they were full of flavor and really good! Their BBQ sauce was very different than what i'm used to but it was refreshing and very tasty! They serve you entirely too much food and i wish i could have taken it to go, but since we were only going to be there one night there was no point. If you like BBQ definitely a good place to stop!

My 300th review goes to Blue Willy's Barbecue! Here I ate the meatiest smoky bbq ribs I've ever been served. And to hear about its food truck roots makes me cheer for this delicious success story. We walked in to find an open area and kitchen where the meat is sliced and the line to order forms. As the brisket was cut, people ooohed and ahhhed at this piece of beef. We were given a bite to sample and while excellent, a bit too fatty for my taste. Meats and sides of mac n cheese, collard greens, cole slaw, and baked beans make up this menu, along with some craft beers, soda, and apparently a lemonade that I didn't see on the menu but would have loved to try. Will be back for that and more ribs! Combo plates and a drink run about $15. Corn bread is ordered as a side; plates come with a couple slices of plain sliced bread. Overall excellent traditional barbecue in a clean and comfy dining room. As I ate, I overheard the words "I saw it on Yelp" several times, and I too first heard about Blue Willy's establishment right here first...even though it's just down the street from me. The decor is southern and casually rustic. Thank you for helping me discover another foodie gem!

The amazing smell as soon as you walk in, in no way prepares you for just how incredible this food is. We grabbed a full rack, pulled pork, slaw, beans, mac and cheese, and the greens. Not only was everything perfect, but the sauces (which to be honest, the meat is so good you don't REALLY need them) are an amazing little extra. Tried and loved all of them. The ribs fell off the bone, and this is the first time I've ever had pulled pork that wasn't begging to be sauced. Is parking a nightmare? Yeah. Is the food worth the parking battle? HELL yeah. We'll be driving up to pompano as often as we can for this food. If you're wasting money at other bbq places, do yourself a favor and stop now. Take your tastebuds and your wallet to blue willys, thank me later.

What a great food experience. We had a variety of the platters and everything was delicious -brisket, sausage, pulled pork, ribs, baked beans, and macroni and cheese. The sauces were a pleasant surprise as well, especially that they are vinegar based. My boyfriend said the white sauce was killer. Would go back for sure!!

I was a little confused about where to park, and then I saw a very interesting sign that said to make sure NOT to park in the Polish Deli's spaces as they are "our aggressive neighbors," so I moved my car to the proper spot. When I walked into Blue Willy's, the cashier and a co-worker said hello and welcome. I ordered pulled pork on an onion roll with coleslaw on top, mac and cheese, cornbread and a can of diet soda. I chatted with them a little bit as I waited for my to-go order and they were nice. It came out to about $14. We then ate it at my grandparent's house nearby. The first thing I noticed was that the sandwich was room temperature which tells me that the meat was never hot in the first place. I really liked the coleslaw, I wanted to love the bun but it was generic and quite bland, and the pork was under seasoned. I tasted the hot and regular BBQ sauce and it was nothing special. The mac and cheese was nice and warm and I really liked the rich cheese flavor and very subtle spice. The cheese sauce is not as thick as I'm used to, and there was a lot of cheese left in the end. The cornbread was burnt on the bottom/sides, and it was dry. I was hoping I would found a new place to order cornbread but no one has defeated Whole Foods' NY Style Cornbread. I think the only reason we would come back is to try that Pastrami sandwich on Thursday afternoon, the chicken with the white BBQ sauce and some more mac and cheese. Then I'll update my review.

Definitely the BEST BBQ spot in town! During their lunch hour, the line goes all the way outside! This place is known for their delicious briskets, ribs, and pastramis on Thursdays. Pick any of their meats and you won't be disappointed. If you're a Mac & Cheese fan, then you must get this as a side. Cheesy and has a little bit of the smoky taste which is good! There is a minor problem...the parking! During lunch hour on a weekday, it is almost impossible to get a spot. Just a warning, do not park in any of the available Polish restaurant spaces or they'll tow your car away. Even with the horrendous parking situation...it is still worth it!! I'll be there again soon!

Talk about the best pork lunch plate, from sandwich to the just the slices of beef, by far the best I have ever had!! Great local BBQ spot that you would easily drive by it everyday heading to work, but the owner which use to own a box truck and sale the dinner meals, now moved into a small hole on the wall place, but it's just like us local love it! Everything that served there is fresh, juicy, and very filling. Everything on the menu is smoked the same day sold, the mac n cheese is amazing! If you are around, this spot would be the best place lunch, you just can't go wrong, you have my word on it!

The best darn brisket since Katz Deli in NY. This place has pastrami down to a science and it is delicious. Unfortunately they only serve it on Thursdays and if you don't get on the line before noon you may not find any left. You see, these folks cook up their food fresh from scratch on a daily basis and once it's finished you are out of luck. This allows their meals to have fantastic flavor and a one of a kind taste. Their ribs, chicken and brisket are up there as well. Sides are killer too, especially the corn bread. When it's all said and done, this place is the best I've had in BBQ and Deli style meats in all of South Florida. Definitely worth the visit.

Wow, this place is the real deal. I almost don't want to post this review and risk showing up one day to an empty cutting board, but mama always said to share. This is THE only place in South Florida that I've found allows my tastebuds to escape to the South for a meal. I've heard tales of incredible lines during lunch on a weekday, but I always go on Saturday which isn't terrible. Now, what to order? Well I've found that bbq is a personal preference in terms of meat choice, and I always end up going with both the ribs and pulled pork. That said I've tried the brisket and it is delicious! They have two types of cornbread - normal and jalapeño which is a nice treat. They also have a nice selection of craft beers, and quite possibly the best sweet tea this side of the Mason Dixon. Enjoy, and please don't tell anyone else about this gem! PS be careful with parking- the neighbors will tow.

Great little place, ordered here for take out one night, was served by the owner who cuts the meat for ya. Food was good, very pleasant service, and they even helped me with truck when my battery died. Though I must say their Brisket was amazing, perfectly made, fresh, flavorable and juicy which is saying a lot considering we picked up food late at night for BBQ around 9ish. Most BBQ places have dried out meat after 6ish. I thought their ribs were ok. Not nearly as good Tom Jenkin's BBQ ribs. But Willy's definitely had the better brisket hands down. So I would say Jenkin's does better ribs/pork and Willy's does better beef - brisket.

Never judge a book by its cover...non-descript store front with a yellow sign that says BARBECUE; inside nothing fancy either. Clean, welcoming and cool. The aroma though makes you instantly hungry. The food, the food is delicious. The pulled pork is great, the brisket is better than great and the pork ribs are the meatiest ribs I've had. Baked beans and greens were the sides...tasty, well seasoned as were all the meats! Portions are large, served on paper on a tray! Sides in disposable containers. Great meal! I will come back for more...

Great bbq, best in south Florida. Just check your "to go" orders before you leave for missing items! That's 2X's in a row, same woman at the counter, I should've been more careful. We drive up from Miami just to go here, annoying! Yes , I was most certainly charged for it too.

Here is a quick concise review...., Chicken was unexpectedly awesome. Best thing we ordered. Brisket, awesome. Pork sandwich, tremendous. Baked beans pretty good. Mac and cheese average. BBQ sauce selection was interesting. No sweet stuff. Hot sauce was my fav. Decent selection of craft beers. Ambience was very low key rolling stone album playing in background. Shorts and flip flop type of place. Don't be scared when you arrive. This place is a must.

My fiancé and I were in the mood for BBQ after watching the challenges on the food network. We came across this place because of yelp. As you walk in you smell the delicious BBQ. It was enticing. We both got the two meat combo. For me the ribs were as amazing as everyone states. Juicy, tender fall off the bone. My fiancé insisted the brisket was his favorite. Although the food was fantastic; it was all cold. Very cold. The poor girl at the counter was flustered think they are under staffed. They had a great selection of micro brews. I will finish with.. Despite food was cold the ribs were cooked perfectly and that's all that matters!

After coming here a few times I'm upgrading my STAR RATING from 4.0 to 4.5, but I am rounding it to 5.0 . While on my eternal quest to find authentic Southern BBQ in South Florida, I happened to come across Blue Willy's BBQ on yelp. Blue Willy's BBQ used to be a food truck that plowed the streets of downtown Fort Lauderdale. Which now has found a permanent brick and mortar home in Pompano Beach. Before I describe my encounters at Blue Willy's I need to expound on The Three Heavenly Signs one must discern to be able to recognize true Southern BBQ. 1) If you do not see smoke and smell the smoke flavor coming from said establishment, do not even waste your time. 2) Americans born and bred from the deep South are the only authorities on Southern BBQ. So if a Yankee Doodle Dandy or a Stanford/UC Berkeley educated Californian food fusion-ist is making the BBQ, you're wasting your time. 3) If you do not see a sprinkling of obese people buying and/or working at said BBQ establishment, do not waste your time. When I drove up to Blue Willy's BBQ, I could smell the smoked flavor, but not as strongly as I would like. Nonetheless the first sign was fulfilled. Once I entered the restaurant I could tell by its ambiance that the owner was from somewhere in the south. But when I asked the owner of his origins he said he was Texan. Technically Texas is part of the south, so the second sign was fulfilled. The third sign was intriguing, because I actually didn't see any morbidly obese or obese people. I was disappointed and was about to leave when I noticed something I had not ascertained before. I saw a few moderately "out of shape" blue collar intolerant looking conservatives devouring ribs. Trust me moderately "out of shape" blue collar intolerant looking conservatives can zone into True Southern BBQ as expertly as morbidly obese people. If you don't believe me just watch a few episodes Andrew Zimmern Southern BBQ episodes on The Travel Channel. Not only that but one of them appeared as if he had mild to moderate cardiovascular disease. He was laboring to breath while devouring some meaty looking ribs, which is a strong indication of delicious BBQ. So the most important and last of the divine signs had been fulfilled and modified . Said modification of Codex - lll: 3) If you do not see a sprinkling of obese people buying and/or working at said BBQ establishment; Nor see moderately "out of shape" blue collar intolerant looking conservatives do not waste your time. As noted earlier the owner is Texan, but he barbecues Alabama style that he learnt while residing in Alabama. You can see Texas written all over this place, from the Texas longhorns to the old rustic non matching chairs and communal tables. Coupled with the blues music playing in the background, you actually feel like you're dining in the deep south. The menu is populated with typical southern BBQ items like brisket, ribs, pork sausage & chicken. With sides of pit smoked beans, mac & cheese, slaw, collard greens and cornbread. They serve beer, soda's and in-house made lemonade. I ordered half chicken with mac & cheese, cornbread bit.ly/M3CQ8J and a lemonade bit.ly/M3CWgv . The chicken itself was tender & juicy, I loved the flavor of the dry rub, but it wasn't fall of the bone type of BBQ. They have 4 kinds of BBQ sauces(hot, milder, mustard based, unique white sauce) on the tables bit.ly/M3D3Zq . I tried each one of the BBQ sauces including the odd white one, all of them were unique and delicious with varying spicy flavors. STAR RATING 4.0 The cornbread was a little to dry for my liking. STAR RATING 3.0 I wasn't really fond of the mac & cheese either, it wasn't cheesy and gooey enough. STAR RATING 3.0 The in house made lemonade was super and refreshing, I loved the slices of lemon they put in the cup. bit.ly/NheR7h STAR RATING 4.5 -- they have free refills! Overall I liked this place, I enjoyed the atmosphere and the BBQ. The owner and workers seem quite friendly. I'm definitely going to come back.

Like the atmosphere. Looks simplistic , rustic and original . Got brisket sandwich . Was ok . Due to great reviews , I was expecting an amazing , phenomenal sandwich . But I was not blown away by the taste !

Let me tell you, this is real deal BBQ! Cooked to perfection, sauces on the side. Everything tender, meat came right off the bone! The meat didn't even need sauce, but I tried all the table offerings and the "hot" was my favorite. I had the sausage, pork ribs and pulled pork. As we arrived sat night about 7:40pm they announced they were out of brisket! Which was sad bc that's what I wanted...but the rest of the food and sides made up for it! The collard greens were cooked and seasoned to perfection! There wasn't one thing I didn't like. I'll be back for sure to this down home real deal BBQ joint!

I had dinner here with a friend last night. it is officially my favorite local bbq restaurant. it used to be tom jenkin's - but after getting fragments of their cutting board on my food i had to stop going. i am so happy to have come across Blue Willy's on yelp. i LOOOOOOOVE BBQ! my friend ordered the pulled pork sandwich, which she thought was delicious. i ordered the brisket and sausage platter. and we ordered the rib tips to share. we had left overs for two meals. everything was super tasty! the sides were ok too. i ordered corn bread and collard greens. they were both good. i am definitely going to be back! :)

Delicious BBQ... probably as good as you are going to find in South Florida (a place not really known for BBQ)... From what I gather, this was a Texas style BBQ ... probably even harder to find in Florida at all, so A for effort on that. Brisket was EXCELLENT... a 5/5, the pulled pork was about a 4/5. Sides were pretty good, just wish they had more side options, and vegetarian options. I'm not a vegetarian myself, but many of my friends (including my gf) are... so kind of hard to bring them here... Some pics to come later...

First of all, if you want a restaurant experience, this is not your place. You go up to the counter to order your food and then find a table. My wife and I had the two meat combo. We both had the brisket and pulled pork. I got the baked beans and coleslaw and my wife had the Mac n cheese and collard greens. The brisket and pulled pork are excellent. I enjoyed the coleslaw and baked beans. My wife said hers was great as well. The reason for the 4 star rating is because the bbq sauce options are crap.

The bbq is pretty good. The dining in experience could be more comfortable. In the evening at dinner time the setting sun is blazing through the windows. Limited parking.

I thought the best beef brisket for me was Wiley's Championship in Savannah (I still think Wiley's "Better than Sex" sauce is unbeatable). This place may beat them! WOW! AWESOME brisket, corn bread, green collards. I do not know how they can cook the chicken that juicy! The pulled pork is delicious too. AND THEIR PASTRAMI! Only Thursdays. They finish 200lbs pastrami from 11am-1:30pm! I say you have never eaten real pastrami if you have not eaten here. Some people say the same for Katz's Delicatessen in NY. I have not eaten at Katz's but I would love to hear from people who can compare the two. I do not know how anybody can beat Willy's pastrami. PARKING IS HORRIBLE ON BUSY HOURS. ESPECIALLY ON THURSDAYS. Willy has nasty neighbors, Polish deli and a psychic. The Polish Deli WILL have your car towed if you park in their space. One of the best if not the best BBQ I have eaten. Pretty good beer selection too.

Very good BBQ but not better than TomJenkins! Thursday they line the street like they are here for hippie crack! The specialty on Thursday is the pastrami which for me has too much seasoning. I like the slaw and like the idea they can serve the special as well as many other meats with the slaw on top sans the bread. The tea is great and the macaroni and cheese pretty darn good too but everything is in the shadows of Tom Jenkins! What upsets the eating experience is the crazy car towing landlord that rents the place their property and has the empty lot next door. Every week the police are there for they wait for the innocent victim to park in the the areas that are posted "no parking" and viola! Another boot is secured onto a wheel and the vehicle then is rendered immobile waiting for the tow man to come and take away the car or if lucky to be paid and allow the car to leave without having to go to the tow yard. All this takes away from the magical experience that blue willies strives for! Pretty sad that hatters now exists in the food world too!

It was my first time at this place. I ordered the pork rib platter! The ribs were cold and seemed to be sitting for a while. The corn bread was rock hard. The bbq sauce collection leaves a lot to be desired I wish I could give this place 0 stars. The service was pretty Good the people working were good but I'm rating the food! The sauces were literally liquid. It was a very bad experience!

In getting straight to the point, the Beef Brisket was about as good as any I have ever tasted. I ordered it along with the Ribs, Mac and Cheese, and Baked Beans. I ordered to go. Really, really good beef. It melts in your mouth. I asked for the spicy barbecue sauce, which was a little too much. Next time, I'll try the regular sauce. I'm looking forward to trying everything else on the menu, and eating in while the food is still very hot.

YAY! I am a big fan of this place. The place is easy to find. Parking is a pain since there was construction going on next door. We ended up parking in the back good thing we did not get towed. Walking in I couldn't help but notice the long wood tables and mix matched chairs. It was very cozy and cute. It felt like a farm house. It seems like they did some remodeling or expanded. After reading all the reviews and everyone raving about the brisket and ribs I knew I had to get the combo and try out both. The brisket was DELICIOUS! It was my first time trying it and it was tender and so much flavor. The Ribs were amazing as well. The meat came right off once you took a bite. For side orders I chose the mac and cheese which was great. I also chose the corn bread and it was oh so yummy!! I did try a little of the pulled pork and I have to say I am a fan!! Make sure to try the CHICKEN!! Omg!! Amazing! The place is very clean and service was so quick!! The minute we go there we were greeted and quickly placed the order. In less than 5 mins we had our trays. Make sure to try the BBQ sauce on the table. It was delicious and added great flavor to the meat. I wish I could have stolen the jar! I was addicted. This place has become our new favorite spot.

Absolutely delicious BBQ. Can't say enough good things about this place. The pulled pork, the ribs, the mac and cheese, all the best I've had in ages. I can see the parking being an issue, but there were big signs warning people not to park in the deli spots, so just pay attention to those and you'll be fine.

We were in the area and were craving bbq- yelp to the rescue! We would never had known about this place if it weren't for it. There's no big sign on the front/no name, so you could easily pass it by without knowing. Inside the place is casual, set up with long wooden tables and old fashioned chairs. Their bbq is slow cooked over wood fires, and their aides were delicious as well. Def recommend the pulled pork, chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens, and jalapeño corn bread. They also have different homemade sauces already on the tables.

AMAZING don't underestimate based on appearance this place is a Southern BBQ gem! Beside the BBQ itself the sides are equally amazing the mac and cheese and collard greens are sooooo good!

I've lived all over the southeast and Texas and Blue Willy's is some of the best barbecue I've had anywhere. I've had everything but the chicken. The brisket and ribs are my favorites, all the sides are great (especially the greens) and their homemade sauces are awesome too.

This place is amazing. Be prepared to go home smelling like smoky bbq! The place has long tables with mismatched wooden chairs. It seats about 40 people. We went on a Sunday night and it was about 30% full, but a lot of people were ordering takeout. The food is served on a tray with a piece of butcher block paper. No plates here! You order at the counter. It is a simple menu, which makes the ordering process easier......except you have to decide which yummy meat(s) to get! I opted for the 1/2 ribs and 1/2 brisket with my 2 sides being mac and cheese and cornbread. Everything was amazing. There are many sauces on the table to try and all are vinegar based. One is super spicy. The brisket was amazing! The ribs are St. Louis style ribs so they have more fat than a Baby Back Rib. Still the smoky flavor was great. The mac and cheese is spiral noodles with a very creamy cheesy sauce topped with panko crumbs. The corn bread is semi sweet and moist. Blue Willy was there and came to talk to our table. He put a sold out sign on the door at 7:15 pm on Sunday while we were there. It is a great place and everyone in my party raved about the food. We want to go back for pastrami Thursday.

I was early for an appointment at Imperial Hospital and was looking for a place to eat. Saw the line out the door and actually found one of the 4 "legal spots" When I do BBQ it usually isn't brisket but when in Rome! 90% of the orders where for brisket. Tghe brisket was real juicy I liked the sauces. the collard greens where good but needed more pork back. I loved the mac and cheese.

Unfortunately I won't be tasting this barbecue place ever. At 1 pm on a Thursday, line out the door. No menus, no website and most importantly NO PARKING! And in the 5 minutes it took me to find all of that out, some schmuck from "Broward Parking Solutions" decided to boot my car for $65, which he gladly reduced to $40 if I paid cash. Mind you the shitty psychic and polish deli next door were empty, and 12 parking spots were open. So, Blue Willies, if you want to be less blue and get this residents business you'll figure out parking, get some menus AND A FREAKING website. Otherwise that was the most delicious 40 barbecue I didn't get to eat.

We stopped by for a late lunch and could not find a parking place in front because there were only 4 that didn't have threating tow away signs. None of those were being used. I called the place and asked what I should do. They said to go ahead and park at the muffler shop next door and I would not get towed. Once inside we found a chalkboard menu and a walk up counter. We ordered the pulled pork plate with two sides(Mac n cheese and green) $9.99 It was served on a tray without a plate just on brown paper and small paper trays for the sides. The portion of pork was very generous and excellent. It was Thursday which is "Pastrami Day" and many people had order it and it looked great! The next time I will try it. My only complaint was that staff could have been more outgoing and friendly.

Was looking for a place to get barbecue and found this place and boy I'm glad I did. The service was very fast and friendly employees, but the barbecue and the macaroni and cheese side were AWESOME!!this is a small place (if u blink u will pass it) and on a very busy street, It has a small parking lot that fills up quickly so if you're in the mood for Great barbecue I would suggest you get there is early as possible. The food is well worth it!!

Came here post cruise before our late flight out. We had previously been to bbq of a competitor but they're closed on Sunday's. Husband previously been to Blue Willys so he took us all there instead. It's a very unassuming place from the roadside. Be careful not to park in the polish deli spots apparently he gets really mad. We ordered the brisket, ribs, chicken and sides of cornbread, slaw, collard greens and Mac and cheese. The good was delicious. Not dried out or anything and had good flavour and wasnt salty. The cornbread was very good and not too sweat and had a perfect golden colour. Iced tea and lemonade were also free refills! Next time we are in Fort Lauderdale we will be back!!! I wish I could have it more often!

Cool little homey place and the smell in here is to die for. All homemade on premise and the owner is from Texas so you know this Sh*t is good. Pit smoked baked beans, collards and all the meats. Hell yeah!

  • Sarah H.

Where to begin...BBQ was very good. The sauces were good but you have n Know idea which is which until you try each one. Parking is ridiculous totally not worth dying for BBQ. The few spaces that are there most are not for BBQ. Park in the wrong spot and you get towed or booted. Here's the secret I learned, the businesses actually permit this to go on and encourage it. That's disgusting ...so my meal cost me 65 dollars more because I parked one space away from where they wanted me too. Blue willies should be ashamed

Geographically, Florida is in the southeastern part of the U.S., but it definitely not the South. For one, there is no barbeque culture here. Most of the barbeque joints here are poor imitation at best. That is, until today! I would like for you to close your eyes and visualize that when the server sliced the brisket, steam wafting out, juices drippin and the brisket jiggling. Half way though the meat you realized there were barbeque sauces on the table. Really and truly, would you put steak sauce on a perfect piece steak? The ribs are very tasty and tender, but without falling off the bone like a lot of other places. More than likely "falling off the bone" means the grill masters pre-boiled the racks before putting them in the barbeque. We'll still go to barbeque cultured states for different styles but knowing that great briskets, ribs and sausages is only an hour away is a good feeling.

REVIEW UPDATE ~ It was "Pastrami Thursday"! I already had marked it on my calendar days before, so our outing was specifically centered around just going to Blue Willy's Barbecue for this experience ~ We got there early, @11:00am and we were the 1st one's in line but as people started to congregate outside the establishment, we literally all discussed all our previous Blue Willy's foodie experiences and how "excellent" the food was here. We compared dishes and discussed exactly what we were all going to order. (so there was no hesitation in line when we entered) People drove from all parts of Palm Beach, Broward and Dade County for Thursday's "Pastrami Sandwich" special. As the doors unlocked promptly at 11:30am, we all entered in an orderly fashion. Just like children waiting for that special treat that we knew we would get if behaved accordingly. OMG ~ This is no ordinary pastrami! It was suggested that I order my sandwich on their fresh rye bread with cole slaw placed delicately on top of my meat and dressed with a generous spread of their homemade mustard. (see photo's) IT WAS JUST AMAZING ~ It was piled high and was a work of culinary art. The pastrami had a gorgeous crust of spices, that was heavy on the coriander and black pepper that made it so moist, so flavorful, and completely devoid any trace of excess fat - but had the delicate texture just melted in your mouth with ever bite. We also ordered the "Brisket and Ribs Platter" so that my partner could sample all of Blue Willy's fabulous meats (for it was her first time there) that later she would later described as a "killer beef brisket" - lean, tender, with a deep dark bark and pink smoke ring ~ as nothing less than fabulous. The spare ribs ~ where big and meaty with that same smoke ring, and just enough chew to know they were not overcooked - but perfectly cooked. The sides that we had were ~ collards ~ heavenly tender greens that had a rich flavor with a hint of being lightly smoked, and their ~ baked beans with small, plump raisins laced throughout it that enhanced the sweetness of the dish. Remember to get their "Homemade Lemonade" or Sweet Tea that complements your food. Great job ~ Blue Willy's! It just doesn't get any better than this. ~ A must "Try It" to be put on your ~ Yelp! ~ list of foodie experiences to try. Cheers!

I'm kicking both myself and my friend about Blue Willy's. I'm kicking myself for not having tried this place sooner, and having driven by a few times, without letting curiosity get the best of me. I'm kicking my friend because he literally lives a few blocks away and has never gone in, when all along, he had barbecue greatness in his backyard. I had heard great things about Blue Willy's, but I had no idea that the establishment with the "Barbecue" sign was actually the famous Blue Willy's, but since I was in the Pompano Beach area, I decided we should go to Blue Willy's, which according to the GPS, was minutes away from my friend's apartment. When we got there, surprised, I thought "oh, I have seen this place before, I had no idea this was Blue Willy's!". Situated in a small strip mall next to a psychic and a Polish deli (don't ask), Blue Willy's is very much the equivalent of the stunning girl who dresses down to not get too much attention. This is evident in its obscure signage. Blue Willy's is owned and operated by Will Banks, who was born in the barbecue land of Tyler, Texas. He learned his skills from his grandfather who owned a butcher shop in Tyler. Although he never was serious about barbecuing, only calling it a hobby, he decided to go pro some years ago, first by selling barbecue from a smoker in a park, and then, by opening his restaurant. As you enter and slowly take in the wood facade, you walk up to a counter, with a blackboard behind it listing the items. You place your order, pay, and sit until your name is called. As we arrived, the brisket, covered in foil was brought out and he opened it and started cutting thin slices. If I was hungry before entering, imagine how much hungrier I became as soon as I smelled the smoky meat, saw all the juice coming out of it and into the foil. I did not give it another thought, and ordered that freshly grilled brisket. I also wanted to try other meats though, so I went for the combo and also got the pork ribs. There are several other options, like sandwiches, chicken, sausage, or pulled pork. They all sounded good, so it was a tough choice. Sides included a meaty version of collard greens, rigati-made mac and cheese, cornbread, coleslaw, or the mustardy smoked beans. I opted for the collard greens and mac and cheese, while my friend ordered pulled pork, beans, and cornbread. As we were sitting, a huge lunch crowd entered. We got there at the right time! The food was ready rather quickly. I noticed then that they don't use any sort of plates, they put a thick paper on your tray and the food is served on this. Plastic forks are provided for the sides. Interesting. As we brought the food to the table, we noticed some sauces on the picnic-styled tables. I did not know what to expect and being adventurous, I tried them all. The sauces were in chemist's bottles, which added to the intrigue. Honestly, the meat is so tasty it probably does not need sauces, but I thought the sauces brought out the flavor even more. The tomato and vinegar sauce is a reddish/brown concoction. The second sauce, also very popular, is the sweet mustard and vinegar, which has a golden color to it. I was surprised to see a white sauce, which looked like the sauce you'd find in coleslaw. What was this mystery sauce? I actually found out that it is a mayonnaise-based sauce, christened Bob Gibson's White Barbecue Sauce, an homage to a famous Alabama barbecue. El Diablo, a homemade hot sauce, was also provided, as was TexasPete, a commercialized hot sauce. I used all of them. The brisket, as predicted, was juicy and tender. The sought-after smoke ring was present as well. I don't think I have had such mouth-watering brisket before. It is made in the Texas style. The pork ribs were also juicy and meaty, very tender as well, and these are cooked in the Memphis style. Perhaps that is what makes this place so great -- Mr. Banks has pulled together the best styles of barbecue and instead of just sticking with one style, he has made it a fusion, using the best of each style in accordance to the type of meat being used. In addition, he uses different types of wood: hickory, oak, and pecan, which gives the meats a subtle sweetness while being smoky. He does not drown the meats in rubs either, so you can taste the flavor of the meat, rather than the seasoning. Nothing is overcooked and everything is moist. The beans also have that smoky flavor. The mac and cheese was thick and gooey with cheddar cheese, including some grated cheese that was sprinkled on top. The collard greens were very moist and plump, with pieces of what seemed smoked bacon. By the way, I recommend ordering the sweet iced tea to drink, it's delicious! I am glad I stopped by, and I will definitely be back, it's finger-licking good, easily one of the best BBQ joints in SoFla, and hard to beat. Blue Willy's is easily the gold standard!

THE BEST BBQ IN TOWN!! I come here often and LOVE it every time. I usually get the brisket on the onion roll. My friends are just as obsessed with it as I am. They are great for catering as well! If you haven't been here, you must try it soon.

Due to such high reviews, while staying overnight locally, we stopped by for our dinner. There was no sign outside, and it looked like a dump from the outside, actually, until we opened the door, I was ready to leave. There is not much parking, so be prepared. Once the door was opened though, the aromas came flying out and made my mouth water. This place looks like it has been here for one hundred years and it has been opened about one year. There are several chalkboard menus over the counter and there are about 10 large tables with mismatched chairs. We ordered pulled pork sandwiches, brisket, baked beans and almost all the trimmings and shared. Everything was well cooked, tender and absolutely delicious. Barbecue sauces were on the table and my husband asked about the white sauce. I told him it is a southern barbecue sauce and I was dying to try it. I did and used it exclusively on my sandwich. It was just wonderful. I wish Blue Willy's would open up in Myrtle Beach! The food was reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. I would drive to Pompano, just to have another meal there, it was THAT GOOD! Tip: Get there early and have your partner grab some chairs for you.

Stopped by to try some BBQ as I have been looking for good BBQ for the past 3 yrs here in South Florida. I ordered brisket and ribs. The lady at the register convinced me her sweet tea was the best and will have to say in ranks up there. The brisket has great flavor and very moist which is great. The brisket was also very tender so it was east to chew. Now the ribs were cooked perfect. They were moist, great flavor, and fell off the bone. This BBQ reminds me of good Texas BBQ right here in Florida and will be going here more often.

I sincerely hope they work out the parking situation with their neighbors. Otherwise, it'll be a long walk from my office; long, but worth it. Real deal BBQ.

The bbq chicken here is unbelievable! Greens are good and beans are yummy. Customer service could be friendlier...the girls behind the counter aren't that warm and fuzzy.

HOLY WOW!!!!! Not sure what else to say! Went there last Thursday for their famous Pastrami Thursday and I never wanted to leave. Went with a small group so we ordered a bit of everything on the menu. The pastrami is simply to die for. Chicken was outstanding....putting must chicken franchises to shame. The pulled pork was fantastic and the brisket was melt in my mouth delicious!!! The only concern about the location is parking...but who cares. For food this amazing, I'll WALK from Delray Beach!

The brisket was scrumptious! The pulled pork was very tender and delicious, and the ribs are two yums up! The collards and baked beans were also top notch! Definitely a great family BBQ joint!

I underestimated Blue Willy on my first visit, and based on all of the phenomenal reviews I had to try it again, so I ventured to pick up dinner and was extremely pleased by my 2nd experience. I opted for the Ribs and chopped pork dinner with mac and cheese and corn bread. - The ribs and chopped pork were 5 stars all the way! Incredible smokey flavor and cooked with a pink center, absolute BBQ perfection. 5 stars - The corn bread has to be the best corn bread I have ever tried, soft, melt in your mouth. 5 stars - Now for the mac and cheese which had been one of my biggest disappointments from my past visit, well it was much better than I remembered it, it was very creamy and had a lot more flavor, personally I prefer baked mac and cheese, and while it was good there is still a lot of room for improvement, I have had much better. 3 stars - The BBQ sauces were outstanding, tangy, zesty, bbq - very good, I have previously said I like Jenkins sauce better but now based on a new comparison Blue Willy's is much better, to me Jenkins sauce tastes too sweet whereas Willy's has that tangy zest. 5 stars Parking can be challenging, there are only a few spaces, I parked at the Tire shop next door and walked over. Overall, Blue Willy's BBQ Meat is outstanding! So good! I will definitely be back.

This is an excellent place to get BBQ! Feels like your in Tennessee! Be careful during peak lunch hours....crazy busy but well worth it! I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone! Having the brisket sandwich today! Have not made is for pastrami Thursday's yet! I here it is a must have!

The only place I know where the owner is a total a**hole, rude, and crude but you don't care because the food is so good you don't care. Without a doubt the best ribs in Florida. Good pricing and service.

Thought the staff where nice. The food a bit pricy for not having many options. We had the brisket and corn bread. Meat was a bit fatty and the bread was dry. Overall worth trying at least once.

I really enjoyed eating at this place. The place is how it should look, dated but clean. Everything on the menu is good, but the sandwich that isn't on the menu is awesome. Local secret. The only drawback is the neighbor parking problem. Make sure you park in one of the spaces directly in front of the restaurant or at Midas, or they may boot or tow your car.

It's definitely time for an update on Blue Willy's Barbecue since it is no longer a big red barbecue cooker/smoker located out of doors in a downtown park with a few rickety tables and chairs along with a good number of pesky flies. It's now indoors, a permanent brick and mortar restaurant establishment though somewhat of "hole in the wall," but which I find to be delightfully in keeping with what a traditional barbecue establishment should look like. The décor is simple, sort of industrial and typical of what you might find around the small towns of Texas. The best part is that the Texas style of Blue Willy's barbecue has the same great flavor and taste it has always had along with the fact that they have kept their tasty in house sauces. I always go for the ribs which have a nice texture along with a genuine smoke and spice hand rubbed flavor. As far as barbecue goes, it's traditional in style and one of the best in the area.

Do you want the best barbecue in the tri county?!? This is the spot!! The brisket is amazing and the smoked sausage is like no other. First bite, it's like being in Texas!! Try the brisket and the sausage, with a very honorable mention to the rib tips. If your lucky enough to get here while they still have some, don't be stupid, order them! Little known secret, they have Mexican coke. (That's the coke that's made with the real sugar). Truly one of the gems of ft lauderdale, you can't go wrong eating here.

Hands down, no second thoughts, the best BBQ in south florida. I never knew BBQ could be this good. The brisket; juicy, cooked to perfection and oh so flavorful (even without any sauce) is to me the main the attraction. the pulled pork too was excellent and I couldn't get enough. The beans and mac and cheese were also 5 star sides, each with its own distinctive flare but still true to that comfort food goodness that they should have. Please, dont skip the corn bread... WOW.

  • Bruce J.

I am a pretty decent back yard smoker, gotta say, the brisket here was the best of any BBQ places around and I like to think i have been to most of them. They were cooked perfect, that brisket when he cut it had the perfect wobble of a perfectly cooked brisket. If anything I would says spice it up a bit, put some ground pepper heavy on the outside and inject it with some flavor, but not all people like that and it is a restaurant, so I get it. Haven't been back lately to try more menu items, but like the little place, parking sucks, be careful or get clamp on your wheel or something, hear they are at war with polish deli over parking. I think if he could make a deal with parking with lot next door or something place would be a goldmine.

Pros: brisket, pulled pork, pastrami, watching Willy work, mac n cheese, the peppery white sauce, employees that aren't allowed to touch the cuts of meat, the unassuming sign, ugly door, picnic seating, lines out the door where everyone is patient and happy. Cons: i don't know a good heart surgeon yet.

This place is ridiculous. It was recommended to us by my husband's client. We drove 30 minutes two Sunday's in a row to try and eat here and both times this place closed early. Very early! They say on the answering machine 8pm Sunday. We arrive at 4pm to a paper towel sign in the door. Bad business. Never coming back. Go to Dixie pig bbq down the street. Delicious NC bbq, amazing friendly customer service. Actually is open when they say they are.

  • Bradford C.

The BBQ is some of the best around. The sauces aren't labeled, they probably should be...average sauces. Corn Bread Is Off The Chain good. Other sides are average. The cash register women was as rude as you can get, had to have been related to the owner because I know I wouldn't keep someone like that around. Parking is ridiculous and now there is another place opened next door so parking is even more rare. You take you life in your hands backing out of the spots or pulling in off us1.

It's just not July 4th without BBQ. We found Blue Willy's on Yelp. There's no clear signage at the restaurant , other than the word "BBQ", so we missed it the first time around. We ordered a combo plate with brisket and BBQ ribs. Also tried the collards, slaw, beans, and cornbread sides. I am a huge BBQ fan and I honestly think this is the best beef brisket and pork ribs that I've ever had. So tender and flavorful. I was not crazy about any of the sides. So next time I think I'll just get the meat "to go" and make my own sides. The meat was definitely 5 stars. Gave it 4 stars, because of the sides. We will be back.

We tried to go here last night based on Yelp reviews but there are only 5 parking places. We drove around the block for 30 minutes and ended up eating somewhere else, but we really wanted BBQ. Where the heck do you all park?

  • James C.

I've been here a few times and the brisket is amazing. I hear the pastrami is amazing. I have to come back on a Thursday to try it. If you love bbq you have the try this place. It's the best around!

  • Daniel O.

The ribs are so f*$%#ng good. I would eat them for breakfast if I could First of all, you probably won't find parking in front so you have to park at the abandoned auto shop on the Southeast corner of the block. The Polish deli next door has tons of parking but no cars. Sucks for them. Secondly, lower your expectations a bit on the customer service as this is a food truck that is still working out its kinks. I ordered my food and beers, yet the beers weren't handed to me until 10 minutes later when my food was ready. "So why is your review 5 stars if the parking and the sevice are not so good?" .. Because it's about the food! I'll park a block away and get my beer 10 minutes late everytime if the food is this good. I ordered a bunch of items... Here we go: 1. The ribs were by far the best thing I had there. Stop wasting your time looking at the menu. Order the ribs. Seriously 2. The pulled pork was a close runner-up to the ribs. Very moist and flavorful. 3. The brisket was good but I'm not dying to try it again. The ribs and pulled pork were so much better. I'm not saying the brisket was bad.. but the ribs were sooo good. Seriously. GET THE RIBS! 4. The mac and cheese was THE best side. This is not your typical fake-cheese microwaved garbage. This was REAL mac and cheese. You can actually taste the extra heavy sharp cheddar in there and the noodles they use are those funky spirals. GET THE MAC AND CHEESE! Be warned, though. This is not a fake kiddie flavor type of mac and cheese. It's an adult, cheddary, sharp mac and cheese. 5. The beans were my second favorite side. Again, these are NOT canned garbage. These are real. When you go, get the ribs with mac and cheese and baked beans. You're welcome! 6. The cole slaw was good. It wasn't spectacular but it tastes exactly like homemade coleslaw should taste. Cool and refreshing. 7. The collard greens tasted like collard greens I guess. I didn't grow up eating them so maybe I don't have a full appreciation for them but they didn't make me NOT want to eat them. They were rich and yummy. Next time I go I am going to try the corn bread, chicken, and sausage. Oh and I will also get the ribs again!!

  • Scott C.

Great food and very reasonable! I'm originally from Georgia but live in Wisconsin so I don't get barbecue very often. The pork was great but so were the sides. They were some of the best collards I've had. Parking is terrible though. There is some kind of turf war going on with this place and the Polish Deli next door. The Deli is having cars booted and towed. You'd think the property owner or local government could step in and solve this. Not a way to treat tourists!

I've eaten a lot of BBQ but this is as authentic as one can get here in Pompano! Not fancy, Simple and to the point... to conquer that hunger.

Just wanted to provide a quick update. I have gone back to Blue Willy's a few more times since my initial visit. I have found that the meat is a little inconsistent and can range from good to great. The brisket has been dry the last few times I have visited and has not blown me away like my early visits. I will continue to visit BW's but this establishment is not the unbeatable juggernaut that I originally thought.

I did not think "real" BBQ existed in South Florida. Wrong. Blue Willy's is as real as it gets. They take the art of smoking, and elevate it into something that is near impossible to describe. It must be experienced. The small restaurant had a line waiting to open on Thursday (which is the day they make extra special Pastrami - more on that later). We lined up, and waited for the doors to unlock. The other waiting patrons literally GUSHED about how good the food was and especially the Thursday Pastrami. They compared dishes, and seriously stressed about exactly what they would order. The doors unlocked, and we lined up. First customer - pastrami sandwich. This is no ordinary pastrami. It's crust of spices heavy on the coriander and black pepper was so moist, so flavorful, and completely devoid of a trace of excess fat - but the delicate texture melted in your mouth... sigh. The other BBQ regulars included a killer beef brisket - lean, tender, with a deep dark bark and pink smoke ring - fabulous. Spare ribs - big and meaty with that same smoke ring, and just enough chew to know they were not overcooked - but perfectly cooked. As a "sauce lover", I was delighted to see various bottles of unlabeled sauces on the tables. It was like opening gifts on Christmas morning - you didn't know what you were going to get until tasting it... I liked all of them - especially the smooth and tangy white sauce, and it was great mixed with the sweeter one too. Sides that we had were collards - heavenly tender greens lightly smoky, and beans which I also liked, but next time, would either try cornbread or do double greens. Great job Blue Willy's. Thoroughly impressed. Keep it up!

Had the BBQ ribs and some sides. The ribs were smokey and delicious. Definitely will be coming back. What everyone says about the parking is true.. it sucks; but the food is worth the hassle. Park at Midas. Enjoy!

I went there a week ago. And I got a pastrami sandwich, though it's not a normal menu item and people prize that one it's on the menu. I got it and they wouldn't allow you to take it to go because the supply and demand. Though I was fine with that since I was going to eat there anyways.it was quite a long wait expect to have some free time when you come in here since there was a long line. Make sure you do not park at the Polish deli right next-door or you will get towed. So park at the grocery store right across the street and everything I'll be okay. Other than that this place was a really nice place to eat with succulent meets that definitely make me want to come back.

Don't let the outside fool you! There is some amazing BBQ to be had! We split the rib plate with mac & Cheese and were stuffed. The ribs were moist and perfectly cooked with a good about of meat. The Mac & cheese was a nice surprise as well. My fav was the sauce selection, there was one called Diablo that was perfect. Wish I could have tried the brisket as well, I just cant eat that much! Would absolutely go back, great food and great price!

Basically any review you see on here that is under a 4 is written by someone who has a child like understanding of barbecue or a complete imbecile. This place is amazing. I've eaten Willy's food over fifty times and only been mildly disappointed a few times. Never was the food bad. Not all cuts of brisket or rib tips are fatty. Blue Willy's is by far the best take out BBQ in south Florida. The staff is very nice and helpful. If you are confused about the sauce the red sauce is for brisket, the mustardy sauce is for pork(though both sauces are delicious when combined) and the white sauce is best on the chicken. They are styles from different regions. Blue Willy's has taken the best of BBQ from many states.

This little dive is walking distance from my office which is helpful because parking is very frustrating. Most of the time I see people park across university in the Marshall's lot. The brisket is juicy and well smoked. Depending on the time you get it, it could be warm or cold. If you get a plate, the sides are limited (cole slaw, greens, beans, bread) but the meat is a large portion. The sandwich also has a large portion of meat, but the buns are generic and don't help the unique flavor and texture of the barbecue . What dropped this review from 3 to 1 star is the service. Anyone who watched Seinfeld in the 90's will remember the "Soup Nazi" and will recognize the similarity when visiting blue willie's. I have been here 3 times and always felt as though I was getting in their way and bothering them. The last time I went was pastrami Thursday because of all the rave reviews. I hoped to get a sandwich and walk back to my office but there was a sign hanging that said "minimum 5 sandwiches for take out". So I got my brisket sandwich and left.

I got there about 11:15 on Thursday and there were only 4 or 5 in front of me. The pastrami was very popular and they give you a lot! But pastrami is not my thing The owner is engaging ..... Very similar to the pit masters from Texas, where Willy hails from. Most people parked across the double lane highway at Marshall's, I was able to get a park in front. Beef brisket was better than Muellers Meat market inAustin, Texas. Not as good as Franklin's but whose is? Willy's brisket is very, very good. Definitely top three of all I've tasted . And that covers enough brisket from enough cattle to feel a starving, Army platoon! Get the brisket !!!! The ribs were a little above average ....... The chicken was a little dry . All in all you don't have to be the best in America to be good. They are the best in the area ..... Hands down. Ohhhhh ...... The Mac and cheese was pretty good ....... The cornbread looked like a piece of cake and was pretty good, not great but pretty good. The beans were a little above average, they did put effort into them and they were not straight from the can. They definitely would merit a return trip from me ..........I would concentrate on the brisket by the pound, yes I would! Prices very reasonable for what you get! There are not many places in Florida with comparable brisket 4 Rivers in Orlando is the only other one. Enjoy!!!

Awful! Don't waste your time or money!!! I ordered the platter and a drink . It was roughly 18.00. I love good BBQ ribs and usually go to two other places here locally. but decided to try something new today. Bad mistake. The ribs were DRY and so chewy I hardly got the meat off (I left 95%of ribs on the plate) the beans were tasteless and the pork was really dry and hard. I hurt my tooth trying to eat it. I must say the slaw was good and the sauces on the table were tasty .not to mention the cook was trimming fat off of carcass in the kitchen which was open to see. Not nice to look at while I'm eating! Don't waste your time and money !! Go to flanigans or the hog!! Trust me.

Excellent pastrami sandwich! I grew up in Montreal, so I know what consists of a great smoked meat or pastrami.. This is it!! I do not understand why only Thursday.. Maybe owner likes to torture people.. I don't know.. But cannot go wrong on this place!

Pros: Best brisket in S.FL, good beer selections, delicious Mac n cheese chicken and good bbq sauce options Cons/things I'd skip: baked beans were ok, nothing special )I'd rather have double Mac n cheese), collards were pretty salty, pulled pork was nothing special. Parking is a hassle depending on what day and time you go there so make sure you mentally prepare yourself. I will be back again and again for the brisket - I highly recommend it!

I went here on a Friday about lunch time parking was still unavailable in front. I was able to park across the street but was initially confused if that was ok. As for the food, I thought it was a good amount for the price. I got the sausage, half rack of ribs, and brisket. The sausage was my favorite. However, I didn't love any of it enough to return. Personally, I am not a fan of bbq that the smoke flavor completely overpowers the natural flavor of the meat. I like a good balance of smokey but I want to also actually detect the flavor of the meat. Unfortunately, all three meats that I ordered tasted interchangeable. Also after eating the food not all at once of course, I had an awful headache. I can only guess the meat was really high in sodium. So I ended up not even eating most of what I bought. However if you are a fan of super smokey flavor, this is the place for you. By the way, their customer service was awesome. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for smokey flavor bbq because of their customer service alone.

This seems like a total foodie place. You've got one guy (assuming the owner) standing there carving the meat while you order. He brought out an amazing looking brisket, so I had to change my order. The quality of the meat was very good, but it did seem a little dry. It wasn't tough or anything, but I would have liked a bit more grease in it. The BBQ smoke flavor was good and the red sauce was pretty good with a vinegar base. I would have liked a more sweet sauce. I didn't care for the yellow mustard based. Sides were 2 slices white bread, mac and cheese, coleslaw. The mac and cheese was pretty tasty and had a little crunchy topping spinkled on it. I thought the coleslaw was good, not too sweet, not too mustardy or mayo. was fresh. Went back a second time and tried the pulled pork. Now that is good pulled pork, maybe the best I've ever tried. So I would say skip the brisket and get the pulled pork. The seating was long picnic tables, so if it was busy, you might be sitting next to another group. It wasn't busy so I was able to find room. Would have preferred separate tables.

If you like BBQ this is the place for you. We had a brisket sandwich on onion roll with coleslaw and a pulled pork sandwich on potato roll with coleslaw. The meat was cooked to perfection and the sauces they have makes it extra tasty. The sandwiches are pretty big at a fair price. I definitely recommend this place.

Made a memphis girl proud! Everything we had was awesome! The ribs, brisket, and sausage all had a smoky flavor that you only get with a good wood fire pit- several sauces on the table for everyone's flavor choice- but the el diablo was my favorite!! Thanks will for a great meal :)

Excellent - a strong strong showing. We have lived in FL, TX and NC. All have different types of barbecue. We appreciate a good brisket and this place has it. They use both the point and the flat which is an uncommon and wonderful thing for those who know what I am talking about. The greens are really good too.

what can i say? read the reviews here. this is the best BBQ your ever going to have period. i kind of found blue willy's here on yelp by accident while searching for another local BBQ joint. after reading Naty K's review and a few of the others, i had to try blue willy's for myself. While i was waiting in line to order i was treated to Willy himself giving detailed instructions to the couple in front of me in line on how to cook smoked brisket at home yourself. i barely resisted the urge to get out a pen and take notes.oh and by the way, its by far the best brisket I've ever had. ribs, pulled pork...amazing. do you like BBQ? go to blue willy's!

This is hands down the best barbecue place I've been to in South Florida. It reminds me of the barbecue I've had in Texas, as well as some of the better barbecue places I've been to around the country. It has the distinctive what I call the "Texas smoke" flavor, which I've only experienced in Texas before I came here. Makes sense since the owner/operator is a native Texan. The barbecue here is very meaty and juicy, but not greasy. The various sauces that accompany the meat are very nice, there are four of them that you can take your pick of. I prefer the tomato-y tangy barbecue sauce, but there's also a mustard based Carolina barbecue sauce, a hot sauce, and a sauce that seems to be based on "Alabama white sauce" that is a creamy barbecue sauce with mayo (I hate mayo so I didn't even try this one). As far as the meat goes, I enjoyed the pulled pork and brisket very much. It was tender and flavorful and worked well with the aforementioned sauces. This is definitely the place to come to for barbecue. The only downsides are a few logistical issues. The seating area is relatively small, especially for such a popular joint. Parking can be a problem as well, there are only a small number of parking spots in front of the restaurant. Also, they don't take American Express (they do take other credit cards, however) and don't seem to have an ATM on the premises. But other than that, it's all good, as they say.

Just about finished my sandwhich before i realized they didn't put any slaw on it. Had a brisket sandwhich. Meat was pretty tender, yet lacking flavor without sauce. Willing to give them another try though.

Best BBQ in South Florida. Trust me, I've looked around. Nothing beats this place. I used to go here when it was a food truck in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. Everything is tasty, especially the brisket. Willy is from Texas, it's all Texas style. Get the brisket, the ribs, or sausage. I havent tried the pastrami, I think he makes it on Thursday. The Alabama-style white BBQ sauce is only for the chicken (so don't let Willy catch you putting it on the pork but it is delicious on pork!!) Excellent place. I don't know if the sides are anything special, coleslaw can't hurt, you come here for the meat and a nice iced tea. This is not like some of those sick dirty BBQ places with sickening food, Willy cares, the meat is better quality than most of those places, and it is cooked wonderfully, nice and crispy with a good amount of fat. Great sauces too. He also told me to check out Fette Sau in Brooklyn, great recommendation.

The true Texas style BBQ... The brisket and ribs are just perfect. I am usually not a big fan of BBQ chicken but theirs was crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The BBQ sauces are different and tasty. Mac and cheese, cole slow, and collard green are all great. I did not think I could have true Texan BBQ since I moved to Florida but this is it! Now If they can figure out how make / sell peach cobbler then it will be the completed Texan BBQ experience for me. Definitely worth visiting!

From the minute I drove in I was....let's say put off, I parked out front not to sure I was at the right place the sign only said BBQ , but ok I'll give it a chance, I walk in and was greated by who I guess is the owner who says bear with us were training the staff, rather than a hello have you been here before. That aside, when I ordered I asked if the had a combo rib and chicken plate I was told sure, well until I said white meat. He replied we don't have white meat like I should know that. So I figured I'd order a full rack of ribs and was asked are ya sure I said yes I can always finish them for lunch tomorrow, the ribs were ver tender but not what I expected. I'm a baby back fan not a fat fan they were the fatty loin kind. Ohh almost forgot they gave me a sample of their four BBQ sauces when trying each I was disappointed and tossed them out thank goodness I keep some Sweet baby rays on hand. The beans were mediocre and my corn bread was over priced and dry. My recommendation is to drive to ft Lauderdale to Tom Jenkins and you'll even come outta there with damm this place is organized...I can't imagine Willys being busy it was disorganized and not what I was recommended ...sad to say I won't be back.

Very down to earth joint. Pork could use some juicing up a tad dry. Staff was good could be more smiles but very helpful.

I've been in Florida for a couple of months now for work, and this is BY FAR the best food that I've had in the state. The owner, Will, is a joy - he loves to chat, especially about food! He's very humble, but his BBQ is no joke! I've been four times now, and tried all of his proteins, my favorites are the brisket and the pork shoulder, although I strongly recommend the hot sausage and the ribs. I didn't try the chicken, but it's supposed to be quite good as well. His sides are good, the only one that I thought was amazing was the smoked beans. The others are good, but for me, this place is all about the meat. He also has three choices for sauce on each table, and there is a white BBQ sauce, doesn't taste anything like it looks, that I could literally go swimming in. DELICIOUS! EAT HERE!

Went here 12/31/13 for lunch. I was the second to last customer to get brisket as they ran out. Best brisket I've ever had: moist, flavorful, and authentic. If I were local, I'd get to 400 lbs. eating here daily.

The pulled pork sandwich was perfect. I love the beer selection. Great place for real barbecue.

Thursday is the day. Best pastrami I ever had. He does it the old school way and you can really taste the difference. So juicy and with so much flavor, your taste buds will pop. FYI if you like spicy sauce he has more made with ghost peppers that is hands down the best.

We found food excellent. We park at St. Coleman's, just to the north and walk a block to Blue Willy's.

What a gem! The chicken just falls off the bone. My son got to order "dinosaur ribs" which he loved! You order straight from the owner who couldn't be nicer. We will def be back!!

There is no better meal for Barbeque in the area. Chicken is outstanding, brisket is the best I've ever had. Every time I eat there it is a treat. Willie knows what he is doing and likes to talk BBQ if he's not too busy.

This place is great, if your looking for authentic BBQ this is the place. 3 of went there last night and between the three of us we had just about everything on the menu. The Ribs were cooked to perfection and so was the pulled pork. The Brisket was amazing as well. Chicken was good, but I'm partial to Beef and Pork. This is a must go to place, they have only been here a month. I am an armature smoker and make some killer Ribs, These Ribs were spot on. We will be back for sure!

Best BBQ I've had in South Florida by far (sorry Jenkins') and right up there with famous BBQ places I've been to like salt lick and dinosaur.

The opposite of pretty much everything on Las Olas. For the basics: the staff is passionate about their food, the service is friendly, the outdoor seating actually feels outdoor. They are also completely nonjudgmental. I came from the office for lunch and was wearing a suit and they were like - nbd, here is some delicious bbq. The food itself was just overwhelmingly delicious. After a few weeks of eating bland and poorly thought out plates on Las Olas its hard not to be blown away by the bbq here. I ordered the rib tips and baked beans and honestly can't wait to go back. I'm giving them 5 stars for being so stand out for the location. Cons for me are that the portions are too big (although super affordable, I just hate throwing away food that I can't eat), but they seem in align with portions in the area so I can't blame them.

The Best Barbecue I've had since Pig Pickins in Winston-Salem, North Carolina! If you are lucky enough to be there when they have the Rib Tips, grab them while you can! They are delicious. The pulled pork melts in your mouth. And the fixins...forget about it!

Was a big fan of Blue Willy's until my most recent visit. Prior visits I had experienced the brisket and pastrami. Both excellent. This time ordered the two meat combo of ribs and chicken. If a one meat platter of chicken is $8.99 or pork, brisket or ribs is $9.99 and the two meat platter is $11.99 but is $12.99 if one of your two meats is ribs, why is it a dollar more if you get chicken, since chicken is a dollar less on the one meat meal? Then to add insult to injury I received just two, I SAID TWO, ribs. This was the first time I have been here that Willy himself was not behind the counter. I asked the counter man, a younger lad, if the chicken was brined before smoking and he didn't know. The value for dollar does not add up although the food was still better than some other local bbq joints.

I'm always a fan of places that look like nothing on the outside, but are simply amazing on the inside. Especially with BBQ. Big Willy's is no exception. We nearly drove by it twice. If not for the "BBQ" sign outside, we probably would have missed it entirely. Thank goodness we didn't! Big Willy's is just amazing. It's simple, to the point, awesome BBQ. Considering the amount of food you get, you really can't beat the deals they have going. Recommendation? Get a plate. The two sides that comes with it are out of this world. Leaving here and not trying the cornbread or slaw would be shameful. We're talking REAL cornbread. I could have made my entire meal off of that alone. Do yourself a favor. Go to Big Willy's. Now.

After many visits I think I've got it. First because of the terrible parking I go at an off hour. Around three is about right. I've given up going on Thursday for the out of this world pastrami because nothing is worth standing in line for an hour. I do get the amazing brisket, the ribs ,chicken or pulled pork. I buy it by the pound. I then stop at the French bakery on McNab and buy the best baguete this side of Paris. Then home to put it together and enjoy.

Saw a sign for BBQ driving down Federal highway and it was lunch time so I stopped in. You order at the counter. I ordered pulled pork platter. It comes with two sides. My sides were, baked beans and macaroni and cheese. The pulled pork was excellent. The baked beans were so so. The macaroni and cheese was delicious. I will definitely be going back again if I'm in the area around lunchtime.

Tried Blue Willy's BBQ for the 1st time a few weeks ago. We had the St. Louis style ribs, bbq chicken, mac & cheeze (love the slight crunch), cole slaw, and corn bread. Everything was delicious. Will be going back!

The food here is great, Willy is super nice and all the reviews are completely accurate. Tom Jenkin's BBQ is just down the street and in my opinion, there is no comparison. Willy's is far superior. The only reason to go to Jenkins is that they are open nights and weekends and they aren't a food truck so they have indoor seating. Definitely worth a drive if you are into BBQ.

Delicious!!!! Sweet baked beans and cole slaw, the service was excellent. The ribs were tender, bread fresh and the selections of sauce were great. Very tasty!!!

Best BBQ in south Florida. Tom Jenkins is good but this place is better. Everything I got was good. I got a brisket sandwich on an onion roll. It was awesome. Also the pulled pork sandwich, I loved It. The st. Louis ribs ruled. Everything was very smokey, you could smell it coming up. With the ribs I got 2 sides, Mac and cheese and coleslaw. Both super good, in fact it might be the best coleslaw I've ever had. The regular blue willy's BBQ sauce is great, I put it on everything. It's vinegary, sweet and tangy. Then I tried the mustard sauce, sooo good. The guy who runs the truck is very cool. Can't wait to go back. It is a food truck but there is seating area FYI.

Perhaps the lack of GOOD BBQ here in S. Florida has tainted my taste buds or else Blue Willy's is just damn tasty. I have not had a pulled pork sandwich this scrumdiddlyuptious in years. And the baked beans and cornbread were divine. I am officially hooked on Blue Willy's and will be chasing this food truck down when it crosses the Dade County line.

I figured I'd try Blue Willy's based on the other yelp reviews and I live nearby. WOW!! Very very delicious. I mean very freakin delicious. I had the beef brisket sandwich with corn bread and coleslaw. The corn bread is definitely some of the best I've ever had and the cole slaw was good as well. While waiting for my plate, Willy (forgot to ask his name so I'm gonna go with Willy) was nice enough to give me a nice piece of the brisket drizzled with their BBQ sauce... Aaaaaand I'm hooked. Willy was also extremely personable and nice and just added to the whole experience. I took my food home with me but as others mentioned they do have benches set up outside which is great for people who work nearby that don't want to eat in their office or those who just wanna eat there. I hope more people can get over there and show some love because it is extremely good.

The first thing I ever tried from this place was the rib tips...AMAZING. They don't always have them though so you have to ask. I brought my sister and bf here to try it out as we searched for the BEST BBQ place to cater my dads 70th bday party. After eating at different bbq places for a month we all agreed Blue Willys was the best. When you can smell the smoke flavor on your hands even after eating you know it's authentic. The smoke infused brisket is out of this world- and I didn't even know I liked brisket until I tried this one. We ordered several restaurant trays of brisket, ribs and pulled pork for the party. Willy was very helpful with how to keep it warm and had it all ready at the designated time to pick up. Everyone at the party raved over the flavors and most importantly, my dad was happy. As far as the pulled pork goes, it was not full of fat and hard pieces like you get at some places. I am writing this review based on the meat alone as I did not try their sides. I did not care for their sauces at all so for our party I provided bottles of our favorite sauce. All in all though, you cant beat this place for the quality and taste of their food and great customer service.

As good as it gets for Brisket in Florida! For sure. Went to Tom Jenkins: sides good, brisket overcooked and they won't slice it! Georgia Pig's meat is smoked better than Tom Jenkins, but GP only serves Beef Round, NO BRISKET! I've heard the pork is very good there. Shorty's is a joke. Don't want to bash, but speaking the truth. I know. My cardiologist has told me to lay off the BBQ. I didn't have a problem, until I met Blue Willy's.

  • Jeff N.

The best barbeque in south Florida. Pulled pork and beef brisket are delicious and moist. Both have a great bark on them. If you ask they will tell you what is better at that time, but both are delicious. Standard sides the beans are delicious little smoky can be dry but flavor makes up for it. Fries are standard. The Mac and cheese is also good.

The prime rib of romanian pastrami! Made by Willy, cut thick and so moist. Better than any I've ever had in NYC or anywhere else for that matter. BBQ is exceptional. Amazing. ONLY AVAILABLE WHILE IT LASTS ON THURSDAYS! Call ahead. It's gone by 12:30. My favorite is the brisket. Corn bread is fantastic. I'm so lucky I work next to this food truck!

Came upon this bbq truck Saturday night in the Wynnwood art district in Miami. Every Saturday night a load of food trucks park in one area along with other vendors and music. I saw the built in smoker on the back so I thought I would give it a try. Before I ordered, I jokingly said to the lady "I hope these ribs don't fall off the bone". At that moment the owner jumped in and said they surely would not and that I would be pleased. I brought home the chicken and St. Louis Ribs. I can tell you they were some of the best I have ever had. The ribs were the real thing and the chicken excellent The different sauces were also very good. I hope the owner reads my comments since he asked me to let him know what I thought but I could not since I brought everything home. Well, here it is. Next time I am in the mood for good bbq you can be sure I will head overthere and hope to find them parked.

If you're looking for no-frills, good BBQ, this is a great place. I had pulled pork and brisket, beans and Mac and cheese, and cole slaw. The meat was moist. However, without sauce it was rather bland. Once the sauce was added though, it was good. The mac & cheese was a bit pasty, but tasted good. The beans were smoky, and very tasty. The coleslaw was slightly sweet, but also very tasty. The smell when you enter the place is amazing! One strange thing, is that they give you two slices of white Wonder Bread with your meal. (I had to ask for it because they forgot to give it to me) Why not give a slice of their cornbread, to entice you to buy more?

  • Paula D.

Delicious BBQ. I got a brisket sandwich on an onion roll. Not crazy about the roll but the brisket was delicious and piled high. My kids got the ribs and sausage. All equally delicious. The homemade mac n cheese was also very good. No plates everything is served on a tray with paper on it. Rustic and nothing fancy. Parking is tough but worth the short walk. We had to park behind Midas just across the side street. The place closed right after we ordered they had run out of BBQ for the day and it was only 3pm on a Sunday.

  • Maria S.

Food is good at 3 1/2 stars. Worth driving a few miles for. The unfortunate part is the restaurant is empty and the tables are all unclean. The smoked beans were a bonus as they are made with beef not pork. Good for me as I do not eat pork! Husband loves the spare ribs and sausage. They also have a good variety of sauces.

  • Jordan C.

Can't believe how many times I have driven past this place. The food was fantastic. Brisket was a bit fatty but in a good way. Pork spareribs were meaty and cooked to the perfect doneness. Heavy hand on the black pepper on the collards which was different but totally worked. A few things to be mindful of: 1. Do not park at the polish deli next door. There are a few parking spots out front, otherwise park at Midas. 2. The bread that comes with the platter is a slice of white bread, not the corn bread. 3. The Thursday pastrami special is lunch only. Very nice selection of beer by the bottle and can. And old blues on the radio. It all works.

amazing. Casual- this place is simply some of the best BBQ in town.

4.5 Stars Tasty BBQ along S. Federal Hwy (across the street from Publix)! You wouldn't know how great the food is, or even that this is in fact Blue Willy's, because the parking out front is limited and the only signs say "Barbecue," not the actual name. Remember this, because you don't want to miss it! Once inside, you'll notice the simplicity of the space. Family style seating, with long tables and mismatched chairs. Giant jars of different bbq sauces (both made in house and otherwise). A proud American flag against the wall. Simple, but just what you'd expect from a bbq joint. Order from a small, but specialized chalk menu at the counter, then watch them slice/chop/carve your selection before you. Just a tip, the combination plates are where it's at, because you can sample a few different things. Trust me, you'll be glad you did.

if I could give it 10 stars I would! That's what this cozy, friendly Barbeque spot deserves! Back on my third visit! Again, I couldn't deviate from the moist tender Brisket! Boy was it great! My pops had the same! He loved it! Will came by the table and remembered dad from when he performed at the Yankee Clipper, The next thing I know some other men come to the table asking who my dad is..lol It reminded me of the old days..The sides as always were hot and delicious (baked beans, Greens and Mac &Cheese). If you want top notch brisket, ribs (that aren't wet and sloppy), pork, chicken or sausage THIS is where you HAVE to eat! I also want to give a shout out to the sweet cashier. She is always so friendly and nice. Its always great seeing her. There's a new guy on the chop block! He cuts the brisket like nobody's business! He was such a nice guy, friendly and patient as my dad picked the poor kid's brains about slow roasting and prep work. All around great meal! Thanks again Will

Not much to say about this one. Everyone is right. This place is awesome. My girlfriend took me here for my birthday and it was perfect. I love the big tables with the rolls of paper towels and the sauces just out for your choosing. As someone who feels uncomfortable in fancy places, Blue Willy's made me feel at home. Like you're just hanging out at a family bbq.

Great barbeque. The brisket was tender. The chicken was moist and tasty. The ribs and the beans were some of the best I ever had. 1st time for collard greens and i did like them. Don't let the parking situation stop you. Find a spot across the street and walk over.

This place is cool, also one of the few places I have been to in a long time that does not have a TV blaring in the background. In fact, what was the background? It was some really nice southern classic blues. Indeed. This a real live hole in the wall, with like two parking places outside. Yep, and inside, there are like three or four picnic style tables. But the BBQ is really nice. I had a briscut, Mac and Cheese and Baked beans. The briscut was so tender that I could pick it apart with my little plastic fork. The sides were actually worth eating. The plate comes with a piece of white bread, and I wish I had gotten the corn bread instead ... I mean, come on, it was simply a piece of plain white bread, not even dry white toast. This is real food, in a real BBQ kind of hole in the wall southern Florida authentic type of place you usually only find on dirt roads in the middle of nowhere ... not in some two bit strip mall from the 60's ... but hey, you don't go there for the decor, you go there for some absolutely kick'en BBQ. No chains here, no plastic pigs either. You will love this place.

Popped in for a take out on Thursday. As always there was a wait. This time about 20 minutes until I got my food. The thing that I noticed more than anything else, was a young man cutting the cornbread and spooning the sides. What was so noticeable was that he was in shorts and a singlet. This IMHO should NEVER be allowed in any kitchen. Frankly I expect it is a Health Dept violation. It certainly gave new meaning to "Pit BBQ". The ribs and brisket were as delicious as always but my appetite wasn't the same. So I've decided that this should be 4* for the quality, 2* for my appetite being so depressed and 1* for what should be a Health Dept. violation. Final tally 7*3values =2.33*

If your looking for quality BBQ and then this is your place. Don't get me wrong this isn't the place that you go if your looking for ambiance and white glove service. But if your looking for some real good food that will have you talking about it days later you've found it. I tried the brisket, ribs , and the chicken. All of which were juicy flavorful and perfectly seasoned. The Mac and cheese was creamy , (it's a must have). I've been to several BBQ places up and down the east coast from nyc to North Carolina , Florida and everywhere in between. This place is definitely memorable. Thumbs up.

  • Alyssa T.

Went expecting awesome food based on previous reviews. Wasn't that impressed. Had the pulled pork-eh. The brisket was good, but I've had better. The mac n cheese was terrible. Corn bread was super dry. The house BBQ sauce was super vinegary.

  • Dave R.

The best BBQ i have ever had. Brisket is to die for. No other place in the area can even come close. Been here every time i'm over on this side of the state. Take home or eat in......its unmatched. Ck it out !!!!! i can still taste that brisket.....melts in your mouth.

  • Julie H.

Had a pulled pork sandwich what a major disappointment. The bun was OLD and STALE. The bread can either make or break a sandwich, well this was broken beyond repair. Went here last week and had to wait 1 hour for food that was already cooked?????? Besides that the ribs were over done and the brisket was very dry. Not acceptable. Will not be going back here.

  • Allison N.

I used to go to Blue Willy's when it was just a food truck and can only tell you that their BBQ is some of the best I've ever had, period. I used to live in Nashville and their BBQ is pretty legit, but the pulled pork here is the best pulled pork I have ever eaten. Everything here tastes great though. The brisket and chicken are also moist and flavorful and the sauces are SO good. I used to frequent this place so much because it just made me so consistently happy every time I went to eat there. The cornbread, meat, sides and service are all so top-notch. This is definitely some of the best BBQ in South Florida.

  • Dennis F.

Stopped in here for lunch while running around looking at jobs for my electrical contracting business and had an awesome meal. I tried a 2 meat combo of pork and beef brisket. Having never been here, I also tried the mac and cheese, collard greens and corn bread. I always try the pork my first time at a BBQ place and Blue Willy's was on point. Very tender and delicious and was the brisket. The sides and corn bread were off the chain awesome as well. My favorite part was the serving sizes. I felt I was charged fairly for a nice amount of food. ( I needed a take-out box) I ate at a BBQ place with a red animal in the title in ft. laud (see other review), and although the food was good there, the portions were considerably smaller. Skimping on BBQ portions is not the way to go and Blue Willy's gets it. Oh, as others have said, it is hard to find and the parking sucks, but suck it up, buttercup and eat here anyway!!!

    (4)
  • Chris H.

Pretty decent for south FL , I've yet to try the pastrami. Parking is only 4-5 spots so try the side street if it's full.

  • Phuoc L.

Ate here twice yesterday and didnt dissapoint. Had the brisket onion bread sandwich for lunch. Than had the pulled pork, spare ribs, and chicken for dinner. Cole slaw beans collard greens and mac and cheese was also really good. $1.50 per corn bread seems a bit much but its really good. Service is really friendly and was satisfied as usual. And for the idiot that left 1 star for parking than you're a moron for not being able to read. Parking is a problem, but it clearly says not to park in the polish deli area.

    (5)
  • Brad G.

The BBQ is five star, the pain in the a** parking is three star, so gave them four stars :) Seriously the food is really good, and they give you a ton of it.

  • Brandon M.

Whoa! Fantastic BBQ. Place was packed during our visit. Pulled pork was great, mac and cheese was wonderful. Corn bread was cold, but tasty. Collard greens were good, but had more meat than I like in them. EVERYTHING else looked good! I'd warn you to watch where you park, as parking is extremely limited, and there was a tow shark watching the lot, while we were there. Thankfully, there was a guy outside telling us where a safe zone was to park.

Went in for lunch on an account that my cousin said it was amazing--Which is an understatement. This place is maticuous with their flavors. In other words no complaints.

  • Dr. Ryan S.

A great bbq establishment that has everything a man needs- Quality meat, shiner bock beer, and sweet tea. The meats are all amazing and large portions are served. Watch out for the "special" Mac & cheese which has GoldFish Cracker infused morsels around every corner. Also, don't park in the neighboring Gypsy fortune teller or polish deli parking spots or the tow truck will come- You'll know which places those are because they'll be plenty of open ones. Go see for yourself, the "doctor" says so. Shout out to the meat cutter, you the real MVP.

  • James D.

Just had lunch here for the first time. Man o man, the pulled pork was A+. The beans were B+ and the mac-n-cheese was an A. The place reminds you of an old rundown bar with it's community tables and slow service. But the food is worth the wait and the Mother****** parking hassle. The Polish Sausage place next door owns all the parking! I had to park around back and hike in while worring about my car's safety. The kicker is nobody was in the polish sausage place at all and the lady was out there yelling at people for parking in her spots. WTF, I like polish sausage but I will never eat ther just because she was being a ripe old Bit*h to everyone! Anyhow, the food is really good BBQ. The only request for the owner is please get a sauce without so much vinegar, A nice swet and spicey would do the trick. Cheers

Best barbeque in Fort Lauderdale. I've lived in Georgia, Alabama and Texas and this is some of the best I've had anywhere. Brisket and ribs are my favorite. Sauces are awesome. Nice/fast service.

Amazing. Born in NY & I lived in NYC 12 yrs the place has best pastrami I've ever had. Ribs were tremendous too. Run don't walk. Important: Parking is limited and the store owner who shares the lot w Blue Willys is quite strict they've hired a parking enforcement guy (crazy) who put a "boot" on two cars while I was there.

The pastrami is delicious and the chicken is juicy and perfectly cooked. The brisket is the standout with a a beautiful charred crust and juicy on the inside. Ribs are no slouch too. Make sure you check out the sides too. The mac n cheese is super creamy and the greens and cole slaw are perfection. It's very minimalist so get ready to eat picnic style but it creates an ambience. Definitely recommended!

I've been to several BBQ spots in TX, Blacks, The Salt Lick etc. been to a few in the Carolina's, PA BBQ, Mississippi Sweets and others in FL. I have my own smoker and I'm just a big fan of BBQ. Blue Wilily's is the real deal & the best I've ever had and it's only 5 min from my office.. I was going 2 get the brisket but the owner said it's delicious but I can get that anytime, the pastrami on the other hand is a Thursday special & they always sell out so I took his advice and it's doesn't take words to describe it, it takes 3 letters OMG!!! Awesome and Ginormous!! I got there about 12:10 and probably 15 people ahead of me in line & every table taken but the line moves quick and people in & out of tables quick. If you think the sandwiches at Pickel Barrel (also very good spot) in Deerfield are big you haven't seen anything yet.

The best BBQ in South Florida. Willy is well versed in Texas style bbq and all the meats are worth trying. Personal faves are pulled pork, ribs / rib tips. The consistency of quality across all meats is what impresses me about this joint. Gotta try it all. Still haven't made it on Thursday for pastrami sandwich day, but it's on the list! Great craft beer bottle/can selection. All sauces are made in house. All great, but the original is the most versatile and classic tasting. The mustard sauce is worth dabbing into, as well as the white sauce (vinegar based). Favorite sides are mac n cheese and baked beans. The mac has a crushed cheez it topping and is rich and creamy. The beans have bits of pork in them as well.

After seeing how highly rated this place was I decided that I needed to try it for myself. I ordered the half chicken with two sides and bread. I found the food to be average, at best. Hence, 2-stars. The chicken was dry and I can assure you that I was not served a half chicken. The mac -n- cheese was excellent. The beans were OK. The bread...was a piece of white bread, not a piece of their "famous" corn bread. To get that, you have to pay extra. Generally speaking, I didn't feel I got my money's worth in terms of quality or quantity. Final Thoughts: Maybe they had an off night or maybe I ordered the wrong thing. Nonetheless, I'm probably not going back. There's substantially better BBQ out there.

First time here. Hands down the best BBQ I have had in South Florida. I got the 2 meat plate with chicken, pulled pork, Mac and cheese, and coleslaw. It was amazing. The only downside was that the corn bread was a little too dry, but it had great flavor. For my husband and I, our bill came to $35. Definitely will be going back!

Love this place! Been trying to find a BBQ place since leaving Texas and this place is amazing! The brisket and sausage are both juicy and tender. I Finally made it on a Thursday for the pastrami and was not disappointed.I will be back! Oh! and the mac and cheese should not be missed!

If you are a big fan on BBQ, then Blue Willy's Barbecue is a fantastic spot for some tasty meat. I went with a few friends for lunch on a Thursday afternoon, and in order to find this place we had to really all look. It's located in a strip mall area with nothing else around. It's basically a dive, but because you can tell it used to be an old establishment there previously, it actually is just borderline divvy. The main reason we went was for the Pastrami, which only is served on Thursdays. The guy who works there (presumably the owner) said it takes them just one day shy of 5 weeks to make and brine properly the pastrami, which is why they only have it on Thursdays. The pastrami was extremely flavorful, with a very smoky flavor and a lot of good pepper bark. I got mine plain, but the guy could have added cole slaw and mustard if I wanted. They also had a bunch of BBQ sauces and other juices to add to your meat for some extra flavor from mild BBQ sauce to really hot & spicy. For sides, the mac n' cheese earns Blue Willy's a big plus. Their is a perfect amount of cheese to macaroni ratio, and they top it off with some sort of breadcrumbs for a perfect crunch. My only regret was not trying the other meats and sides, because it seemed like they would all be delicious. My cons about Blue Willy's was I felt the price was a bit high for just a sandwich with no sides. The pastrami was $9.99 for a good size sandwich; at a normal restaurant I would have no issues paying that, but at a dive, I kind of expect everything to be a tad bit cheaper. The service was pretty good, the owner was decently friendly. Overall, Blue Willy's is a good BBQ location to be featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, it just meets all of the criteria. If your a BBQ fan or just in the mood for some, I'd recommend Blue Willy's.

It's nothing fancy but barbeque shouldn't be. The star of the show here is the food by far. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu here but pastrami is the hands down star of the show at Blue Willy's The only issue at Blue Willy's is the parking, the businesses around him have decided to be horrible neighbors and not just share the parking lot even though they are not even open for business. Do not ever frequent the businesses around him if they eventually open they have been so incredbilty rude and combative to Willy and his patrons. I reccomend parking in the parking lot at the shopping center across the street it's just easier and saves the threat of getting towed. So with that out of the way, it is the only thing about Blue Willy's that sucks. When you walk through the door the place is no frills. You walk in and wait in line to get you food and seat yourself at the spartan wood tables. You will wait in line, unless you walk in the door at some magical moment that I have never experienced. I've had most everything on the menu at this point - it's not a vast one. Willy just seems to stick to the few things he likes to make. The brisket is killer, the pulled pork is top notch, the sausage is very good, the mac & cheese is decadent goodness. But the hands down star of the show is the Pastrami. Best pastrami sandwich in South Florida. Only caveat is he only has it on Thursdays. So... yeah. Update - Willy's is a great spot, but you'll probably need all of your lunch hour and then some since it's always really busy. I've been back probably 40-50 times at this point. Consistency has only been slightly off 1-2 of those times. Just a weird cut of meat those times I think as the flavor was still spot on.

Been here 4 times..3 outtve 4 i left thinking its the best bbq in the area Ribs WERE the headliner on those first 3 trips but last time me & the bone were playing tug o war for the meat, bone won ...I the had a bad feeling when i saw a different dude handling the meat than Willie (if thats his name)..hope hes not gonna be there on the reg or vastly improves his ability to smoke a slab...for 20 something bucks a rack theyve got be great every time no excuses or i might as well go to houstons for baby backs (which they dont have here) Pulled pork & mac n chz are the best in the area as far as bbq, worth going for alone but a bbq joint needs a good rack Brisket is good but some parts on dry cornbread was forgettable but not bad generic white bread is good if u need a napkin

All I can say is WOW- this place is the answer to my Tom Jenkins problem. As soon as I walked in and saw that bard-encrusted brisket, I knew I was in love!

Here's the first thing: any and all barbecue places should be immediately judged on the radius of their smoker's waft. Blue Willy's is obviously the best in the Lauderdale area in this regard. What they get right: -Excellent smoking practices. The owner's Texan pedigree shines through on this. -The sides are outstanding. Greens are well seasoned, cole slaw holds up to both eating and sandwich-garnishing, mac & cheese is respectable -Welcoming ambiance. You're here for barbecue and it shows. If you walk in the door and aren't comfortable off the bat, you're in the wrong place--go down the road to Smokey Bones and let them coddle you into whatever complacency you think is acceptable for your "BBQ" experience. What they can improve: -The pulled pork is a little dry and requires sauce to bring it up to edible standards. While many people want sauce to finish up their mouthful, true pulled pork should shine because it's fatty and is smoked well. Sauce is a condiment, not a requirement. I got the impression that they use a leaner cut of pork, which, while also delicious, does not have the depth of flavor that true pork shoulder offers. -bread as a side? OH MY, NO. Hush puppies go with pulled pork! Cornbread is a side; save that for the folks from TX and Miss, and toss some of that batter in the fryer for the Carolinians. -More cash registers. Ordering and cashout are in the same place, and this would work better if you ordered up front and cashed out down the line. You'll get back to your desk during your lunch break, but you'll be rushed. Upshot: this is the best barbecue you'll get in the area--you won't be settling for second best by coming here. Four stars only because I'm from North Carolina and I'm spoiled.

My bf and I wanted to try this place over the weekend. The Food was okay. The pulled pork was great because it's all lean but no flavor. So we had to spice it up a bit. I got the brisket and it was pretty delicious. Collard greens don't compare to tom Jenkins. It's just a bit salty and has a slight bitter after taste. Tom jenkins has the best BBQ sauce. This place doesn't have any real BBQ sauce and the sauces aren't labeled. I had the Mac n cheese as a side and it was yummy! I'll have to come back and try their famous pastrami sandwich. It's suppose to be the best.

Found this place looking for BBQ joints in pompano..dnt worry about how the place looks from the outside....had the brisket, mac & cheese and cornbread. They have a nice variety of sauces on each table to suit your taste of spicy or sweet. Definitely some of the best BBQ brisket I've had in a long time. The next time I tried to visit on a Sunday afternoon the doors were locked and they had a sign on the door "Out of food" so make sure you call before you drive over.

Residing in Seattle limits authentic barbecue options. I can genuinely submit that this is the best food I have ever consumed. I approached Willy (the owner) and inquired why he isn't blue. He observed me with presumably the following thought "How original." He is personable and a master at his craft. I had the brisket, chicken, corn bread, collards. The brisket is served with a little of the top fat portion which perfectly compliments the leaner cuts. Everything is moist. Historically, brisket options have always disappointed because it was dry. This brisket retains its moisture. This was my first experience tasting collard greens. AMAZING!!!! This will go down as the one of the top 3 best meals I've ever had. VISIT Them, you won't regret it.

  • Big Scary D.

The ribs are great the brisket is stupendous and the Thursday pastrami is out of this world. The only pastrami that's better is from Katz's delicatessen in NYC and that pastrami is legendary. This place has atmosphere, good music and friendly staff. The ordering system could use some tweaking to help trim down the wait times on busy days but it is well worth the wait if you have the time. Keep in mind they're closed on Mondays and pastrami is only on Thursdays and usually only lasts until about 2pm. This is the best BBQ place is SoFla. Much better than any of the other places around here with big reputations.

Randomly found this place through a web search of restaurants in the area and SO glad we tried it. Husband and I both had pulled pork sandwiches and they were, to quote him, "BANGIN!" The meat is perfectly cooked and seasoned, very moist, and dry. At the table, they had 4 sauces (seemingly NC style, SC style, hot sauce and a white sauce that a Wikipedia entry on BBQ Sauces says may be AL style). What I would consider the NC style sauce was delicious w/the pulled pork sandwich topped w/coleslaw. The cornbread was sweet and tasty and the mac'n'cheese was creamy and hearty. They also had a really good selection of bottled and canned beers, including the likes of Dale's Pale Ale, Dead Guy Ale, and a couple Dogfish Head brews. Parking was a PAIN, we got lucky after circling the block a few times and got a spot out front.

Honestly, some of the best BBQ I've ever had, anywhere. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone perfect, just the right amount of smoke. The sides were solid. Cornbread worth the extra few cents. Several different kinds of sauces on the table: all good. The only issue here is parking: the place only has a few spots which are usually always full, the lots to the right and left will tow, and there's no street parking in front.

NOT A CHANCE I'm speaking of Tom Jenkins BBQ. I was in line when the temporary closed sign was taped to the prematurely locked doors. Willy is telling everyone in the restaurant that it was a wild day and that he had served over 500 meals. We ordered sausage, ribs, beef brisket, and chicken. Plus mac n' cheese and beans. And four types of bbq sauces to further lavish your meats to your ultimate enlightenment. If there is ever a perfect bbq in this world, it's here at Blue Willy's Barbecue. The next time I'm bringing my surgical gloves. My fingers smelled like Blue Willy's for the next two days... LoL

Heard a lot about this place, finally came by today and picked up 3 platters to go. We had ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and sausage with mac n cheese, collards, and beans. The sauces were BBQ, BBQ HOT, and Carolina style. The good... the Mac n cheese and collards were great! The Carolina sauce is awesome. The HOT BBQ sauce is definitely HOT and I loved that, but the sauce in totality of flavor has nothing on Tom Jenkins. That being said, Willy's Carolina sauce is better than Dixie Pig and Dixie Pig is supposed to be from Carolina. The bad... Nothing tasted SMOKED like REAL BBQ should. The brisket was so dry that I gagged on it a couple times and wouldn't even dare share it with my 3 yr old which was my initial intentions for fear that he would choke and die. The sausage was ok drenched in Carolina sauce, but shouldn't homemade, smoked sausage have more flavor than Hillshire Farms? It should... but it doesn't. My wife and daughter had the ribs and pulled pork. They both said "ehh". I was hoping for more from this place since Tom Jenkins is farther from me, but based on my initial experience, Tom Jenkins blows this place out the water. I was able to walk right up to the counter and walk out with 3 platters on a Saturday afternoon at 4:30. That would be a 45 minute wait at Tom Jenkins. This place is famous for it's Thursday Pastrami Sandwhich, and I here it's legendary. The rest of the BBQ is NOT

First time going there to try and I made a bad choice to park in the parking spot that says "do not park" totally my fault and I paid the price by getting a boot on my truck 1 minute after walking inside. After I paid the guy to take my boot off $65 later I went to pay for my food to which the guys inside wouldn't let me do. A very nice surprise. The food turned out to be amazing and I will come back for sure, but I will park in the right parking spot this time.

I came here on a Thursday evening a little past 6. Parking was a bit of a hassle since there's only about 4 parking spaces in the front. I wasn't sure if you could park on the side street in the back. I don't know what constitutes good barbecue but the Brisket plate I had was tender and juicy. It came with a side of onions and pickles and my two chosen sides of smoked beans and collard greens. The smoked beans had bits of pork and weren't overly sweet. The greens weren't as salty as I would've liked but still decent. I feel like the sides could be a little more for my total of $11.99 but overall I'd come back for the other meats.

As someone from NJ who doesn't get to eat much true BBQ in my next of the woods, I have to pat a place on the back that does it right. Parking is tough as there are only a few spots. We arrived on a Saturday around dinner time and had to park across the street. A minor bump - and a well worth it one indeed. When you walk in, you notice two things. It's rustic and it smells great. It smells the way a BBQ joint should. Menu was easy to pick from. They had all the basics that you would want. We went with a mix of the ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and sausage. And some mac and cheese just to make sure we clogged every artery we had. Ribs were delicious. As I ate my second one - meat fell off my itself after about two bites. One of the best cooked ribs I have ever had. The brisket had a very good smoke ring to it. Quite tasty as well. A little fatty for the friend that was with me as he likes his a bit leaner, but well worth the price of admission. Pulled pork was good. Not the best I have ever had, but much better than I would have expected in Southern Florida. Prices are pretty reasonable. Drinks will cost you a bit extra has they only sell soda by the can. They do have a few craft beers which was nice though. We didn't meet Willy, but I'm pretty sure he was the super polite fella at the counter as he seemed to be quite passionate about everything that was going on. I'd happily come back here again. Too bad I'm about 900 miles away.

Great barbecue here in South Florida. I've lived all over the South, this place beats most of the places I've ever been Went better than the barbecue change that we have, this is real barbecue Southern style. I tried the pork and the brisket. The pork was the most delicious and tender ever tried, and the brisket wasn't far behind.

Definitely not slow-smoked! I'd call it South Florida-style barbecue.

Loved the meat. So tender! The cooks are great at recommending what to eat. Big portions. Ambience so simple but just perfect. Parking is limited. I highly suggest them to change the cashier for somebody that has charisma, and energy to sell their awesome menu.

A hidden gem! 5 STARS! Thank God for Yelp. Had the pulled pork plate and my husband had the brisket sandwich! AMAZING!!! Don't be misguided on their outside appearance, bc inside is charmingly decorated BBQ style. Wish they were in NY!

I started coming to this place when it was a truck and trailer in downtown Ft Lauderdale. Fast forward 3 years later, and he has upgraded to a great restaurant. Whenever the craving for a good smoked brisket strikes, I don't even hesitate to drive the 45mins to an hour up to Pompano from Brickell in Miami. It's worth the drive, it's worth the parking, it's worth the wait in line. I would stand outside in the rain for this food. If you show up at lunchtime, see a line, and ask yourself if it's worth the wait... yes, yes, unequivocally yes. You WIL NOT regret it. It's not 'in the area' food, it's destination food. Yea, it's really that good

Very yummy! Just wish they would keep the tables a little cleaner. I know it's shared picnic benches but they all seemed a bit sticky and had either napkins or straw wrapper on them. And it was not a busy time at all.

I won't be going back........for forty some dollars for two people.........I expect AT LEAST to have my meal served on a plate.......may it be plastic, paper or whatever. I had the meat combo........brisket and two ribs.......... I did not expect the meat to be put in a piece of paper on a cafeteria tray along with the two side dishes in paper containers as well.........not to mention the plastic silverware. What gives??? I saw NO ONE cooking/barbequing anything..........inside or outside.........all the meat I saw was wrapped in a piece of foil.........then it was put into a microwave oven and warmed up. That's pathetic!!!! I have so many questions..........where the hell was that meat cooked at????.........who brought it in? Was it cooked at another restaurant and just dropped off........perhaps someone's home? Who know's??? The brisket was dry as a bone.........flavorless.......I had to drown it was sauce to get some kind of flavor. The ribs were also pathetic............sad excuse for ribs. You may nuke the macaroni and cheese and ALL the side dishes, but I expect the meat to be fresh.........right off the grill.........like at Tom Jenkins. This restaurant had TWO areas for cooking that I could see..........and NONE was being done in either kitchen. The cornbread was so dry and stale.............terrible. The JUGS of sauces were not labeled and you had to ask an employee just what each jug was full of. I have lived in Fort Lauderdale three years now and this is without a doubt THEE worst restaurant that I have been in. ........PLEASE think twice before going here.

Two words: hot damn! This is some of the best BBQ I've had in awhile, and that's coming from a girl who grew up on her Grandpa's "all day BBQ," butter and sauce-basted in a handmade smoker from the crack of dawn until it was time to eat (hence the name). So yeah, I'm picky about BBQ! Show up early and often on Thursdays for the smoked pastrami, and when they ask if you want cole slaw on your sandwich, do not hesitate to answer yes!

    (5)
  • Greg G.

Went on pastrami thursday. Long, long, long line. Took about an hour to get to the front and then when I did, surprise, you are only allowed 2 pastrami sandwiches to go. Also they traditionally seem to serve their pastrami topped by Cole slaw which seemed to drown the pastrami flavor. If there is a next time, no Cole slaw

Ermarhgerd! Finally a BBQ place that should not be ashamed of itself. Ever since I was spoilt back in the day with the good stuff from Texas, I've been unable to find anything comparable around these parts. Lo and behold, the little unassuming place that I've been driving by has held to key to my BBQ heart. We had the chicken, ribs, brisket and pulled pork...so yeah we covered the bases. Everything was pretty simply prepared and, well, dee-lish. They have these awesome jars of crack sauce on the table too. There's no label telling you what they are, so you just have to take a leap of faith and hope you don't burn a hole through your tongue. I took off 1 star because brisket is just about my fav, and here it was my least fave of all the meats we ordered. It seemed like it was a bad cut or something, so I would probably give it another go next time (and oh yes, there WILL be a next time).

The Texas style BBQ is on point. Smoked low and cooked slow. The brisket is amazing and the smoked chicken is perfected. They offer three sauce variations that please the pallet. Best BBQ in the area!

Holy crap this place is awesome! So the ribs were amazing, came back and had the pulled pork and it was spot on. I may go back tonight for brisket. One of the best, if not the best bbq I've ever had. Excellent sauce as well. This place is fantastic. Also, the staff is friendly and glad to have you. Feels like home only the food is better. Super high recommend.!

Top of the line BBQ! I generally oppose ever getting BBQ from anywhere but ever since Blue Willy's entered my life I make sure to hit it up just about every 2 weeks. You would think the place has been there for 40+ years with the amount of customers that know and love Blue Willy's but I think they opened Early-Mid 2013 from previously being a successful food truck --- 2 Meat combo Ribs and Pulled pork is my go to. It's always seasoned and cooked to perfection. Sauce choices are great, my favorite is the hot bbq. Make sure you get over to Blue Willy's!

I have never had brisket this good outside of texas. You walk in and its that texas counter service with the butcher paper and I knew I was in heaven. Even if you don't think you like brisket, you have to try the brisket. Peppery, great crust, the lean end is perfect, the fatty end and deckle are just superb. Ribs are also very good. They're not the fall off the bone tender, but they're very meaty and very on point. Sausage and pulled pork are also good but the brisket is the star. They have the most life changing pastrami on thursdays but it has always sold out before I got there so I ended up faking being sick and take a half day from work... it was definitely worth it. Cornbread is super butter with real bits of sweet corn, collards are great, beer selection is good for most beer snobs. Owner and staff are super awesome. They had almost run out of food (no reheating food, they smoke all night and when its gone its gone) and closed shop but snuck in my group and got us the very last of their delicious BBQ. If you like BBQ, you have to make it up here. The food is legit and I haven't had anything like it in florida.

Haven't had anything here I don't like but honestly the chicken and pulled pork is my fav. the homemade bbq sauce is near perfection. mac and cheese is yummy but the cornbread is kinda dry. if your in the mood for good bbq this is your spot.

  • Jason G.

I enjoyed the pig I dined on here but I must have got the end cuts of the slab because my ribs were rather dry. No worries, I poured some sauce on that took care of that issue. The brisket, also a bit dry, was still flavorful. Prices were reasonable, portions, though they weight it and I hate that, were equally reasonable. Not a fan of that plain Publix white they give you. Instead of two cheap pieces of bread like this is a soup kitchen, let's get some Texas toast or something. Eating plain bread is real depressing. The mac & cheese was real nice. I had two helping and felt it was the highlight. Cornbread a little dry too. Felt like I experienced sex with a 90 year old woman today with all this dryness. I'll go back because I saw the potential but I am not ready to crown this the best BBQ in Broward yet. And while its called Blue Willy's despite no sign outside, I call it Sweet Dick Willys in honor of Robin Harris. It's just a better name.

Some of the best BBQ I've ever had. Brisket and pulled pork were both super tender, juicy, flavorful and had a nice bark on them. Mac and cheese was good and the cornbread was quite possibly the best I've ever had. They have four different sauces, only one of which is hot. The look of the place from the parking lot scared me but inside it feels like you are somewhere in Texas or some other Southern state. Very cozy and Blues music fills the room. Highly recommended.

So me and some barbecue aficionado buddies decided to try this place on Pastrami Thursday. Boy, what a discovery. We were three guys and managed to spend $87.98 in an effort to sample nearly everything. Expect a very long line. Nothing is rushed and everyone seems to take their time behind the counter. Surprisingly, the staff is very helpful and very kind. The owner, Willy was also a nice guy who seems to take pride in his restaurant and pleasing his customers. I would suggest going up to the front counter grabbing a a few cold beers, and just soaking in the entire experience while you wait for your turn at the counter. I thought the ribs were some of the best I've ever had. The pastrami sandwich is truly world-class as well. The pulled pork was great, and the three sauces they have to choose from are so good. I used all three liberally and enjoy each one equally.

The best BBQ in town. I eat here often and have had everything they offer. It's so good and can't hardly make up my mind what I want the most. I'm only knocking off one star for atmosphere and cleanliness. Not that it's filthy just could pay a little more attention to the tables and serving trays. BBQ is messy.

The best true Texas style BBQ in South Florida. And for the guy that complained about not getting served on a plate and with plastic cups and forks... I'm sure they'll happy NOT to have a stuck up jerk like you as a customer!! Never had a bad meal here- everything on the menu is great and the quality of the food is well worth the price!!!

great beer selection, cool tunes, awesome service, good vibe. we had pulled pork, brisket, ribs & smoked sausage.smoked sausage was a little mealy. tasted like there was a lot of filler in it. ribs were perfect. Tender, but not mush like bobby rubinos Brisket was moist and tender. I have given up on trying to do brisket at home. I'll leave it to these guys! pulled pork was smoky and perfectly prepared. Side dishes are not an afterthought here: collard greens that my 12 yr old boy enjoyed? wow! corn bread, baked beans and cole slaw were all outstanding. we'll be back!

After being disapointed by most BBQ places in the area I was thrilled with this find. Blue Willy's is fantastic, easily the best BBQ around. Its not as pricey as many BBQ joints in the area. Super high quality everything. Can't wait to go back.

This is absolutely hands down the best BBQ in south Florida. Do not put off going here, people! The brisket and ribs are a must. There's also a broad selection of delicious sauces that aren't shy on the acid/vinegar [that's a good thing when it comes to balancing the fat from the BBQ]. My personal favorites are the mustard, hot and white. This will definitely be incorporated in my regular line-up of go-to restaurants.

Small restaurant with big taste. Highly recommend the pork sandwich on a onion roll, of course topped with Cole slaw. Bring your appetite and a bib.

Best barbecue of South Florida in my opinion. Amazing brisket and ribs. Tough to find parking.

Pros: the brisket is off the charts amazing!!! Seriously the best brisket in all of south Florida and I think the reviews speak for themselves - it rocks! Cons: he runs out of almost every day and he is closed a lot. I eat BBQ in every city I have ever been in and that includes Gates in KC, Salt Lick in Austin etc there is no doubt this guy is serving up the best of best brisket

As a native Texan I'd like to think I've had some damn good bbq...this place was certainly excellent! Brisket had a fantastic bark! Ribs were awesome. Collard greens were great. Mac and cheese was good. Solid beer line up. I will definitely be back!

I miss the food truck. Food trucks are just cool. I used to feel like I knew the location of the speakeasy of amazing BBQ, and whenever I brought someone in on the secret, they were always blown away! We were getting the best BBQ within hundreds miles off the back of a truck behind the courthouse. That's the stuff of legends, and it saddens me that the legend is no more. So now we park legally, walk into an air conditioned building, and eat our meats at real tables. We are no longer subject to the heat and the rain and the bugs. Although curiously the utensils are still plastic and they haven't invested in things like plates or glasses yet. It's almost like they didn't want a real restaurant either, they just wanted to park the food truck inside somewhere. Eventually someone will explain to Will that these things will save him money and go easier on the environment. Oh well, the food is too good to stop coming but it's no longer cool, it's no longer special, and you better get there early because it's no longer a secret either.
